First go to HP.com to download the latest drivers. Look for the "support" tab that will lead you to the page where you can type in the model "Officejet 8500" to reach the download page for the latest drivers. If that doesn't help - or you've already tried that - open the "HP Solution Center" icon from your desktop. You might have to re-enter your "settings" by clicking the button on the far left margin at the bottom. There are also 2 "Device Support" buttons at the bottom of the page - specifically "How Do I" and "Troubleshooting" that may assist you. I should also note that the top right box on the same screen entitled "General" also offers a shortcut to "HP Software Update."

Hp 8500 printer/fax machine will no longer receive a fax in color but can send in color. it used to work fine both ways. What can I do to fix the problem?


If the person who is sending the fax cant send in color, then you would not be able to receive the fax in color. Just make sure you choice the option to received the fax in color. Ask someone to send you a fax in color and just received in color.

I keep getting error message 344


There is a good chance that your fax line is bad. Determining where it may be bad is a bit more difficult. There are a number of places that it could be bad, one of them should be replaceable by you. You can try a different phone line between the 8500 and the fax wall jack. You can try the 8500 at a different fax wall jack (if you have one). If you have DSL Internet service, make sure that you are using a DSL filter in between the fax wall jack and the line that connects your fax machine.

The final thing you can do is hook up a phone to your fax line, do you hear static? If so, you probably need professional service to assist you. Those are a few things you can do on your own to resolve a line issue. If that doesn't fix it, you might have to call out a phone company to check/test/re-run the phone line to your fax wall jack where you plug the 8500 in. It might even be a problem outside of your house/office/building.

Beyond line issues, there really isn't much it could be besides the fax machine itself. Try taking it to someone elses home/office and test it there. If it has the same issue, it is probably the machine itself.

There is one setting inside the 8500 you can turn OFF to attempt to bypass the issue, however this is just a bandaid. Look at your instructions to disable ECM or follow the link provided by HP for error 344 below:

Hp officejet pro 8500 a909a all in one series. unable to fax. message states: image on fax send report is set to off


Press the settings button i.e the button with the wrench icon on the machine. Now select "Print Report" and then "Image on Fax Send" and set it to "ON". Save the settings and try again. It should work.

8500 hp printer -- cant get red of message -fax log full


clear the fax log...
go to setup menu basic fax setup... scroll to fax log... clear fax log....
in some printer you can find the fax log in the fax settings or advance fax setup..

Fax log full HP Officejet 8500 error; Delete not


Please press the set up menu on th eprinter which is like a tool(wrench)-----Arrow keys-----TOOLS-----OK-----Arrow Keys------Clear Fax Log------OK.
This will clear the fax log.
If still the issue persists, please follow the below steps.
1. Touch the Setup icon.
2. Scroll to and touch Tools.
3. Scroll to and touch Restore Factory Defaults. A Defaults Restored message displays.
4. Press the Cancel button to return to the main menu.

And then, again cleasr the fax log by following the below steps.
Please press the set up menu on th eprinter which is like a tool(wrench)-----Arrow keys-----TOOLS-----OK-----Arrow Keys------Clear Fax Log------OK.
This will fix the issue.
