As much as I like HP for dependability and economical printing, I too get aggravated with the pop-up box that claims I'm low on ink when nowhere near it. At the bottom right of that info box you should see a checkoff box that says something to the effect of "don't show me (or remind) me of this again" Click in the box and that should prevent any further notices. Believe me, you'll know when you're getting low because of the print fading. Hope this helps.

We purchased a HP Photosmart C4400 series last December 2009. I have just put in a new black ink cartridge and the printer is not printing the black properly, it still very faded. I have put in the correct...

Black printer ink in HP Photosmart may fail to be recognized by the printer. Most times an error message will be sent indicating that something is wrong with the black print cartridge. Sometimes the printer may accept to print with the black ink, but the printouts may have horizontal lines and very illegible letters. In such a case a manual cleaning of the print head should be carried out. In doing the manual cleaning, one should spray Windex heavily on paper towel and wipe off the surface of the print head.
