Question about Olympia Mastertype 3 Typewriter

1 Answer

I have a olympia startype 3 and the carriage will stop typing and just set there and move the ribbon up and down repeatedly. Is there a problem with one of the circuit boards and who can you get to fix them, every repair person I have talked to says they do not work on Olympia any longer because they cannot get parts. I have four of these and they all do the same thing

The OLY STARTPYE 3 is the same as the NAKAJIMA Ae series there are probably broken wires in the carrier harness about 1" from the carrier connection. If you can get them to us I'm sure I can repair then.

How do I increase the area where I can type?

Press margin release key, move carriage using backspace to where you want the left margin to be and press left margin set key. Repeat for the right margin, use space bar to advance the carriage and press the right margin set key instead.

I have a Olympica Startype 3. I'm wondering if my printwheel is bad? My letters are broken and solid type.

Try typing on a multi part form with the impression switch at the largest dot, if the copies are good and the originals are bad the problem is the ribbon. If all are bad tou need a P/W.

When you start the typewriter, the pinting mechanism moves all the way to the left, stops, and it starts beeping.

Make sure the Print wheel is installed correctly. When the carriage goes to the lhs the print wheel should spin to find its home position... if no print wheel is installed it can give this symptom.

Our Startype 3 typewriter now sticks when we type -- the tiny striker piece does not hit the character on the wheel consistently so we get jammed up or very light print... please advise a fix... Dori

Machine may be dirty inside....try cleaning the silver rod that the carriage slides across left to right inside the machine...then lubricate the shaft with a lightweight oil.

A couple things to check, lift the cover and make sure there is nothing obstructing the carrier from moving completely to the left. Also make sure your correction tape is not interfering with the print wheel. Try taking both the ribbon and correction tape out and see if the machine will go to ready. If this does not help let me know and we can check a couple other things, But try that first. John

Does it make a grunting noise? If so, it needs a couple drops of oil on the main support shaft. Also check the indent setting. You need to use the code key to activate or deactivate the indent.
