There are many possible reasons for a slow machine. An obscure but common problem is that the battery pack has failed or is missing. If the battery is bad, the CPU may be automatically underclocked to reduce power demand, even if the charger is plugged in. The battery is replaceable, but requires some careful handwork (but no soldering) to exchange.

Non responsive buttons

You have to open up the remote. The underside of each button has a black disk. Clean each button with a pencil eraser. Then look at the circuit board. Where each of the black discs would make contact (looks like two "E"s facing each other) clean each of those with the eraser. But the remote back together and all the buttons will be responsive.

I think you have a sticky key problem. Go to control panel/ accessibilty options/accessibility options and then confirm all the settings with some friend. Fix your settings in the control panel. Especially all the keys like sticky key, togglekey and filter key. Try them out.
