Hi pakphile! well in this case what you can do is to try uninstalling and reinstalling your touchpad driver..you can do that by clicking on start then right click my computer..left click properties and click device manager..look for pointing device..expand it and under that you should be able to see your touchpad driver...right click on it and choose uninstall..after that restart your computer and test the touchpad again..hope this helps :)

Actually the problem occurs when I type. The cursor jumps when I type so letters get inserted in the wrong places and words/paras can get highlighted and deleted if I continue to type without being careful.

Should I reinstall the touchpad or keyboard driver?

Will it really automatically reinstall if I delete it?

    Thanks

Yes it will reload the drivers back again once you restart the computer but try this step too. Click the Start button> click Control Panel> click Hardware> and then click Mouse. Click the Pointer Options tab, and then do the following: Uncheck the Hide pointer while typing box. Hope this helps :)

Jumping cursor while using editor programs under windows xp

Does this happen with a text editor (notepad, word etc) or with on-line pages?

What OS are you using (XP, Vista, Win7)?

If it's a laptop, are you sure you're not hitting the touch-pad by accident?

i was trying to assit my lacousin with her laptop "issues" and could not figure out how to stop the cursor from skipping around. when you start typing on her laptop the cursor has been known to:

move randomly while you're typing
highlights text and deletes it
jump all over the page

After doing many google searches, I was unsuccessful in finding a solution so I thought I'd post here. I have tried to make her touch pad less sensitive but nothing seems to work.

Jumping cursor when typing

Since you have a logitech mouse, lets just disable the touchpad. You should be able to disable the touchpad via one of these methods:
  1. Look on the top row of keys. You should have one that looks like a little mouse. If you do, hold down the "fn" key in the bottom, and press the key with the mouse on it. That *should* disable the touchpad.
  2. Go to the control panel, and find the keyboard and mouse settings. Digging through the menus, you should find a touchpad. You can disable it through there.
