The "E" key on my keyboard does not depress

I received an email from a friend, which I forwarded to my parents. It refers to a report made by Judge Kithil which states these and other examples of the kinds of changes that Obama Care was making especially in regard to older people-over 75. My stepmother was very upset and said that Warren Buffet, who apparently was asking everyone to forward this to 20 people and especially older people, would NEVER support such inflammatory and negative statements. she wanted to know if I had checked my facts. I admitted that I hadn't but would. I didn't know how to check it and mentioned it to my sister. She offered to check for me. She checked with Snopes and it refuted the claims that Judge Kithil gave. (By the way the email gives the actual references including pg. #s, sections, lines, etc.
I accepted it but it bothered me because it came from sources that I thought I could trust. Today I googled Snopes reliability and found that it is said to be unreliable and run by a man or couple who are very liberal and who denounce anything negative said about Obama as urban legend or as un-factual. Please help me figure out how to get to the bottom of this!

If you are careful, you can usually pull the plastic keys off of the keyboard (gently pry the end with a small screwdriver or something and it will usually pop off) ..... there may be dust, or bits of food etc. that has gotten into the mechanism behind the key. If there is, blow it out with some compressed air and put the key back on and try it again.

If that doesn't work..the key mechanism may actually be broken, and the keyboard may need to be replaced.

Try rubbing alchohal first. If they are too bad you will need to disasemble or replace the keyboard. The keys do come off on a laptop keyboard. But they are an absolute pain to get back together. You will most likely break some of the retainers along the way. I suggest purchasing a replacement keyboard.

Good Morning. I wonder if anyone could help me solve my problem I have a Accer Aspire 5535 and its around 2yrs old on windows Vista. The screen stopped lighting up and then on Random days it would...

Hi,

This could be one of two things, it is either the inverter (this generates high voltage to run the back light) or it could be the back light itself.

As you have suggested, it could just be a loose wire or cable.

Replacing the inverter is relatively straightforward as it is located at the bottom edge of the LCD screen behind the plastic case. The backlight is usually part of the LCD screen and you would usually be better replacing the screen entirely.

To get at either of these components to check cables/wires etc, you will need to disassemble the screen case of the laptop, this is fairly simple if you are comfortable with disassmbling laptops.

A brief overview of the screen replacement process is below, instructions 1-4 show how to remove the case to access the inverter and cables:

1. Power off your laptop. Turn the laptop upside down so that you can see the bottom side of the laptop's case.

2. Depress the battery release latch and lift the battery and laptop ac adapter out of the laptop. Flip the computer back over and open up the LCD screen to a 90 degree angle.

3. Pull off each of the rubber buttons located along the edges of the Acer Aspire 5535 Screen. Remove each of the screws underneath the buttons with the Phillips-head screwdriver, remove keyboard.

4. Insert your fingers underneath the cover of the Acer Aspire 5535 Screen. Work your fingers around the edges of the cover to unlock it from the screen. Pull the cover off the screen and set it aside.

5. Locate the inverter board at the bottom edge of the Acer laptop screen . Disconnect the cables at the right and left end of the board that connect to the Acer Aspire 5535 Screen. Remove the screw holding the inverter board in place and then lift the board off the LCD screen.

6. Tilt the screen slightly towards you until you can see the strip of tape holding the video cable. Pull off the tape and then disconnect the video cable from the laptop case.

7. Remove the Acer Aspire 5535 LCD screen from the case. Set the new screen onto the case and reattach the video cable and tape strip. Position the replacement inverter board at the bottom of the screen and attach the screw.

8. Reconnect the inverter board's cables. Pop the plastic cover onto the Acer Aspire 5535 LCD screen and reconnect the screws. Set the rubber buttons over the screws. Reconnect the battery.

9. Turn on the laptop. Wait for the manufacturer's logo to appear on the screen to ensure the display was replaced properly.

One key on my acer 5535 not working the letter that comes after abc! will use # in place of that letter. nothing happens when press it an there #oesnt seem to be anything stuck un#er it. only stoppe#...

pop the key off using your fingernail, and underneath there should be a small rubber boot that actually makes the contact when the key is pressed. it's possible that it has moved (they're usually glued on) try and realign the boot and put the key back on. if it's not that, it's possible that the key simply does not work. if that's the case you'll have to replace the keyboard.

I disasembled my acer aspire 5535 to get a piece the broke off the head phones in the plug, now I can not get my keyboard, or mouse to work. Turns on and there the monitor turns on?

There are 2-3 very fragile, very small ribbon cables that attach both the keyboard and the touchpad to the motherboard. You likey do not have these connected, or all the way connected. Your going to hve to open it back up ad recheck these cables.
