My Canon MG8120 all-in-one makes a loud noise when copying (not when printing). How do I fix it?

Dear
from the question I understand, the scanner move to right and during return it starts noise.

The problem with scanner assembly, It might be dust accumulated on gears, the scanner belt might have loose or the grips of the belt has worn out. Proper cleaning and lubricating the moving parts may overcome also if the belt worn out it has to be replaced.
In case of at home position it gives noise then the home position sensor may dirty/dusty, it has to be cleaned.

thanks.

I am trying to connect my Canoscan 9900F to my Mac OS X 10.6.6 and the driver (is there one?) will not download although it says there is one on the website. The only thing I get is the toolbox.

You can download all the necessary software at this link. Pay close attention to the install and download instructions. These are dmg files and will self install on the Mac. Make sure to choose the right OSX version (Leopard, Snow Leopard, etc) I am a MAC user and tried the download and setup. It worked perfectly!

Unable to scan The scanning software could not be found, or your scanner is not connected. Please make sure your scanner and your scanning software are properly installed.

thats right. is your scanner power switched on, and is it connected to your laptop via usb cable. Next do you know the make and model of your scanner and have you installed the software. If yes try uninstalling and reinstalling the software. You may have a CD with thr software that came in the package when you bought the scanner.Otherwuse most scanner software can be downloaded by searching for the correct items on the internet. It is not necessary to pay for such software. that should be the first step. will usually work

Makes clicking sound when I power it on. seems like gear under glass that moves the scanning element won't move anymore. any way to reset or does it need repair? thanks!

Does it make the noise even when disconnected from the computer? Try to unplug it from the computer but leave the power connected (if it is a model with separate power and data connection) and see if it still makes the noise.

If it does then it is a hardware problem and it will need repairs. If it doesn't then its something in your software attempting to talk to the scanner incorrectly. You can try reinstalling the software for the scanner to ultimately test.

Canon Scanner FB630U

I have the 660u

You need the Canon Scangear Toolbox software for your model. Unplug the usb cable, install the software (get it from their site), plug in the usb cable and it should detect the scanner then.

BTW, there are no signs of power until you start an actual scan.

"scanner is busy" message

Turn the scanner off, disconect from computer, turn on again while its disconnected, let it do its startup routine for a few minutes. When it stops making noises, turn off again. Turn off computer and restart. Connect scanner again to computer and turn it on. Start the software. I'd appreciate if you'd let me know if it helped. Otherwise you might need to open it or send it for repair to Sony. Service contact is here: http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/contact/sonylist/index.html

Installation problems

Did you plug the scanner in before installing the software? Common mistake... Disconnect the scanner, uninstall the software completely, re-boot, open up the Device Manager, Click View-->Show Hidden devices--> Look for any scanner related drivers that are still installed for the scanner (they will moste likely be grayed out since it is unplugged) and uninstall them (Right click-->Uninstall). Re-boot again, install the software, wait for the software install to prompt you to plug in the device. Follow the quick start guide if it came with one. Check the manufacturers web site for updated drivers, software for you model.
