Question about Philips Televison & Video

3 Answers

Hi, I just bought a Philips HTS3540 home theatre system and I am having problems hearing the TV (Sony Trinitron) through the home theatre system. The DVD / CD / Radion work fine on the philips, but I just cant seem to configure the TV and home theatre to work to show tv programmes. Any advice on the correct steps and configuration? Thanks, Colum

You can connect it in 4 easy steps.
1) First identify the audio out socket of the TV ( should be a Red and White RCA sockets at the back )Hi,

I just bought a Philips - bobhifi_24.jpg
2) Identify the audio in socket on your Philips HT system. It is labeled Aux at the back of the system.
Ignore the yellow socket and connect the Red & White sockets with a pair of RCA cables.

3) Select the Aux input to listen to the TV sound.
4) Now if your TV has a variable audio out you will have to turn up the TV volume to hear from the Philips properly. You can confirm if its a variable out by pressing the mute on the Sony TV while listening through the Philips speakers. If it does not mute it means it is fixed out and you can only control the volume using the Philips remote.

Dear Mr. Paul, mistakenly i purchased Philips HTS3540/98 without seeing the Optical and Coaxial IN is there or not. now i need this input in my HTS3540 as my Samsung LED TV and HD Satellite Receiver providing me the Optical and Coaxial OUT only. is there any way i can alter my HTS3540 main board by taking any Technician help. what i mean is as Computer Mother Board allowing us to add lots of card in it with its available slot, same thing can i do in HTS3540 mother board by adding the Optical or Coaxial card on it. if not any other solution which you want to suggest. please mail me on nayak_rajkishor@yahoo.com badly waiting for your reply.

Setting up a home theater can be very tricky to explain over the 'Net, it is hard to give advice, since you could be using any number of methods, channels and cable configurations to set it up.

Whatever you are using, make sure that your TV audio out wire is going to your TV in plug on your receiver. Make sure your receiver is set to the appropriate channel (TV in) to play the audio out to the speakers. And, lastly, also make sure that your TV is set to use home theater for sound, not it's internal speakers.

Here's some documents to help you configure your set up:

Good Luck.

There is no firmware for this model. Yu can check yourself on this link.

For every update there is a condition, the electronic needs to work perfect and the battery / power supply must be capable of delivering enough power during the whole update process.
When an electronic device is start acting strange, a software update is the worst thing you can try to solve the problem.

Hi, I am sorry to say that there is probably a fault. First check the fuses if able (a possibilty). If not that then will need to go in for repair.

Hope that helps

Is my tv audio doomed or will the home theatre system work anyways.

some devices these days have a built in volume control, try using your remote for which ever dvd player or satalite bix you use, on push the volume up button on it while you have the volume on the tv maxed out so that you will be able to tell a defference if it works or not.

Home theatre but TV without audio outlet

I would suggest that you smash
Philips HTS w/a hammer!
I had better sound from TV alone! Only 2 speakers put out sound from TV. Recordings from DVR can not be heard very well w/all volumes at max. System sucks! You get what you pay for! $2500 LCD TV sounds worse w/Philips HTS than my son's $300 TV! ALL cables hooked up as instucted!!!!
