Question about Computers & Internet
If it's Windows, you can often find the activation key on a holographic sticker somewhere on the body of your PC.
If you have XP:
If your PC is running, you can find your Microsoft key by going into the registry.
and then find the following:
on the right side of the screen you will see the cdkey under Productid
WARNING!!!!: Don't change or delete anything while in the registry! You will end up with a monitor attached to an expensive and pretty brick.
For Vista/Win 7, the key is in the same location but encrypted. You will have to use a tool to decrypt it. For these versions of windows, there are many product key software tools available to help give you the key, I recommend the Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder: http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/
If you still can't find it (or your machine does not run windows properly), you will have to email or talk to Microsoft support and provide them with info when you registered your OS the first time and they will provide you with the key. If you are like the millions and millions of people who never register their software, then you are out of luck and will have to purchase a new OS.

If you've lost your product key, it's located in the registry but is encrypted and not readable, making finding it difficult. The key was not encrypted in previous versions of Windows like Windows 98.
