Click the apple on the left side of the top bar and click system preferences from the dropdown menu. Then go to sound (it's a picture of a speaker) and check your settings.

It is not finding the OS. Could be a corrupt OS or bad SSD. Hold down "D" immediately after the dong sound until the hardware test screen shows. Use the arrow keys to pick your language. Follow the instructions and post the error code if one is found. Chris
The only way to get access to certain functions is to install bootcamp from the Apple CD before installing Windows. If you don't have the CDs and you want the functionality, you'll need to purchase the proper CDs.
I am assuming that you don't know the password for the administrator account on the laptop. Unfortunately the only way to change the admin password is to re-install the OS (operating system). Seeing that you don't have the disc you will have to purchase one or dig up the one that came with the computer. The Snow Leopard OS disc is available from Amazon.com for just $40 here. Once the disc arrives simply insert the disc and follow through the steps to re-install the OS. More detailed instructions on installing Snow Leopard here. Hope this helps! If it doesn't work even you adjust the volume settings in System Preferences and Sound, it's a hardware issue and you have to take it to a Apple Authorized Service Provider.

check your audio driver, if it is ok, check your sound options if it is muted, volume control..all are fine..then could be your speakers..if you use head phone to check it, and it does not work at all, then your audio driver, reinstall it
It sounds like the sound card on the main board has gone out. Since you have a Mac Airbook, I will almost guarantee that it is still under warranty and you should be able to go to apples website and make an appointment with the Genius Bar at the local store and then have them repair it for you. Back up any important data before you do this, including your itunes music collection and your photos.
