How do I change the belt?

To change the belt on a Hoover Flair Stick Vacuum, remove all 6 screws from the bottom of the beater bar. There are 2 screws hidden under wheels. You must pop the wheels off with a screw driver to remove the hidden screws. The cogged belt is on the left side of the beater bar. Be careful not to pull the wires.

Tip

Burning rubber smell from your vacuum?

Drive belt is slipping.

Remover cover from the bottom of the power head or base if upright style. Usually just 2 to 4 screws.

You will see a belt (thick rubber band) connecting the beater bar (roller with brushes) to the motor. Remove the beater bar and belt. You do not need to remove the motor. The beater bar will be held by clamps and screws. Remove the screws and clamps and lift the beater bar directly up.

Take the belt to your local vacuum dealer (note make and model) and get a replacement.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Note: you will find a lot of hair and junk twisted around the beater bar. Take the time now to cut it all off.

Hope this helped. Please rate this if it helped you.

Beater bar isn't working

Sounds like a broken belt. Unplug it flip it over and look at the bottom there is a cover over the bottom and the beater bars look for screws or levers to remove the cover then replace the belt. it goes around the beater bar and a drive shaft. check HERE for a manual and belts.

Belt is broken. Not sure how to replace

1. Get a long screw driver (probably phillips head) a strip of tape.
2. Look around underneath your vac for screws... look carefully because sometimes they are sneaky and hidden in weird areas like under the wheels, etc.
3. Take screws out stick them in order on tape turned upwards. (remember how you took them out.)
4. Gently remove the bottom cover.
5. Clean and remove debris, hair, dust bunnies, rocks... whatever.
6. Determine where the belt goes, disengage the beater bar on that side (may need to unscrew something) Belt on beater bar gears. Other end of belt on motor end... then stretch belt with beater bar until it fits back in it's place and replace any screws, etc.
7. Make sure the belt is seated properly.
8. replace cover, screws... test.**

** sometimes belts require that you put a twist in them so it can transition from the motor's direction to the beater bar's direction... if you twist the wrong way... the beater bar will spit dirt out the front of the vac.. (it's bulldozing it) In that case remove cover and twist the belt the other way.

Good luck.

I have a Wisperingtone Cannister 100 purchased in early 80sbeater bar won't turn...something may be stuck...how do I remove cover plate? Thanks.

Take the pwerhead off your vac.
Face the beater bar upwards toward you.
Remove 4 Philips screws.
Remove the plastic shroud from the bottom of pwerhead.
Carefully remove one end of the beater bar, (the end opposite to the belt)
Remove the belt end.
Now depending on your model... you should be able to remove both ends of the bar.
usually there is thread or carpet fiber wrap around the bar.
You mention the 80,s,which also tell me they had a copper fitting where the axle of the beater bar meet. Trying to relace the end pieces may be a task and a half... So purchase the whole unit from the manufacturer.
Have fun vaccuming

How do I install a hoover windtunnel vacuum cleaner belt. The bagless one,.

First, take it outside or to the basement. This can get messy. Turn the vacuum cleaner upside down. Remove four 1-1/2" self-tapping screws that hold the bottom cover in place (where the beater bar is.) Remove this and you will see where the belts go; one from the beater bar to a grooved wheel and one from a bowed wheel to a metal spindle way in the back. The beater bar will lift right out. Be sure to clean the threads and pet hair while you're at it.

Howdo I replace dyson belt??

Replacing the belt on the DC-17 is not complicated at all. Once I understood how, the process took about 5 minutes. My best suggestion is to call Dyson and they will quickly and cheerfully walk you through it without making you feel stupid. Here is what they told me: 1. Remove the bottom plate that covers the beater bar, using a flat head screwdriver; pull the beater bar out so that it is only attached by the belt. 2. Use the flat head screwdriver to wedge the belt off the beater bar. It takes a little bit of wiggling, but it is not difficult. 3. Once the belt is free of the beater bar, use the screwdriver to unhook it from the gear that is attached to the motor inside. 4. With the new belt, repeat the steps in reverse, hooking the new belt onto the motor gear, over the beater bar, etc.

How to change belt on this model?

Changing the belt on this nifty little machine only seems difficult until you find all eight of the screws that hold the entire assembly together, and the nice thing is you get to totally ignore the torx style screws altogether.

There are two screws in the bottom of the unit just forward and to either side of the beater brush, remove 'em.

Flip the vacuum over and remove the two screws holding the top in place. One is located under the removable suction hose near the right rear wheel, the other is in plain sight over the left rear wheel.

After you pop the top off you'll see the dark clear plastic housing that covers the beater brush and belt assembly. It is held in place by four more screws, three on the back side of the beater and one on the front side in the center of the machine.

Change your belt, clean your brush and tell your kids to get back to work while you take something out for dinner and open a cold one.
