You may have a hard drive problem or a ram problem causing the freezing i would suspect it to be a ram problem if it freezes while loading files from the ubuntu disc as ubuntu loads to ram before installing you can down load and make a boot-able disc from SEAtools to test your hard drive. And some older versions of ubunbtu (9.10 and earlier)had a utility for checking memory (ram) )you may be able to down load this tool from ubuntu forums or google for ram (random access memory )testing utilities that can be run directly from your c/d drive on a bootable disc.

I hope this helps

Cav i use e recovery outside windows to restore lost or corrupt sys32 driver files on my E4024 emachine p.c.?

If your recovery partition is intact, or made recovery CDs, then yes. The machine will be returned the state it was in when it left the factory. If you have a pre-owned computer, or else the computer was not originally purchased with Windows pre-installed, the recovery partition may have been damaged or destroyed in which case the procedure will be very much more complicated and difficult and perhaps expensive..
Be sure you have copied your data to another disk and have noted any downloads yo have made so that you can replicate what you want.
You might take this opportunity to test your hard drive for faukts.

Acer will have the procedure on their website, and here is another version:

When you download an iso. that's not bootable right from the download. You have to use an iso burner to unlock it and make it bootable.

An iso is just a compressed file of an OS

Well, Linux used to pride itself for being able to run on almost any machine. Ubuntu has become bloated over the years, but more user friendly. You may want to try an older distro like Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Long Term Support): http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.04/ You will want the PC (Intel x86) desktop CD version ubuntu-8.04.4-desktop-i386.iso

Or Xubuntu: http://www.xubuntu.org/getubuntu

Or Lubuntu: http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=lubuntu

Looks like your computer will support up to 2G of memory. PC 2700 DDR (SODIMM) Get a free scan form Crucial to see what memory use can use: http://www.crucial.com/

Can i install windows XP over windows 7?i got a laptop emachines and with it came windows 7 i hate it! i want window xp. can i install xp and it deletes or overrides the window7? or do i have to have...

You can but its not straight forward, your laptop probably came with a SATA connection for your hard drive, XP doesn't recognise this. It doesn't have the correct drivers.

You'll have to build a special installation disc, using a free programme called NLITE, download from Filehippo.com.

You then have to get a copy of XP, with licence, also download all the drivers you need. If you can't get them from emachines you'll have to google for them.

Do the research, build the disk, then before you install. Make sure you've copied all the data from your laptop so you can reinstall win7 if the XP-eriment goes wrong.

Yes, you probably will able to run the program in Windows XP mode under Windows 7.
If not you can download a copy of Ubuntu live and then go into the drive to retrieve your files for WP. check the Ubuntu forums to see how to do this at www.ubuntu.com

First freeze, then boot slow, then boot "PBR 2 ...done, then disk read error Ctrl Alt Del to contine..., now no screen at boot up....fried???

Hello,

The problem is with the corrupted boot files .In my opinion you have one solution
Steps for solution

1. Download an operating system called ' Linux mint ' which can be installed in the pen drive having minimum 4 gb capacity . Using this operating system you can access the computer .

2. Copy the file and folders to an external storage device (external hard disk, pen drive etc..)

3. Reinstall the operating system ( XP,Vista ,Window 7,Ubuntu etc )

Hope you be successful

Creative ZEN running on UBUNTU

I've had the Zen working fine on various versions of Ubuntu - it's worth upgrading though.

I heard the KZenExplorer isn't really supported that much, I tend to use Gnomad2, it seems the option of choice.

Laptop freezes

"I never shut it off " Hope u r hibernating the laptop.. It seems that ur lap is junked with a lot of registery files and starup files.. so it takes a lot of memory to perform its operations and subsequently it hangs up.. and i hope u have installed norton anti viurs. this antivirus needs a lot of resources. better u install Mcafee. The best thing u can do is to install a fresh copy of windows. this will solve ur problem.. and remember keep the startup items to the min level.
