There are various types of heating units used in homes today. The wall heater is a supplemental heating unit. It is used to heat a small area and is usually installed in the bathroom, laundry room or bedroom. A wall heater is mounted into the wall or on the surface of the wall and uses a fan to distribute warm air throughout the room. The air is warmed by a row of heating elements within the wall heater. These elements and the fan are controlled by a thermostat so as to maintain a preset temperature within the room. Check this generic instructional:

1. Measure the dimensions of your current heater. Use these dimensions to purchase the replacement heater. Similar dimensions will reduce the amount of work needed to replace the old wall heater, especially if your heater is mounted in the wall as opposed to on the surface of the wall.
2. Unplug the heater and let it cool completely. Unscrew the fastening screws that hold the wall heater to the back plate. Gently remove the wall heater from its mount and set it aside.
3. Read the user's manual of the replacement heater to ensure that any special requirements are met. Connect the heater to the back plate by mounting it on the back plate and fastening the screws that came with the heater.
4. Plug the heater in and turn it on to test if it is working.

Hope helps.

I have a two year old Redstone 30,000 BTU propane wall heater. There is a lot of dust behind the unit. After running for awhile on the 2 setting, it shuts down and the pilot is extinguished.

If it is a wall unit, it has an over temp safety switch which is most likely tripping from dust preventing proper airflow across it . A good cleaning should cure this.

Ge wall unit cools and then stops

Weather below 50 deg F can harm airconditioners if you run them. If the unit is turned off, then the weather can get as cold as it wants to and not damage the unit. Also 99.999% of the time repair costs on wall units surpass the cost of replacing the unit. This is even accounting for the fact that you will have to pay $25 to $50 to get rid of the old a/c. 5 yrs isn't that bad for a wall shaker anymore. Suggest looking for a new unit.
