SOURCE: function key locked on

did you spill something on the board? If so, you won't fix that, you'll need a new board. If not, dismantle it and adjust the rubber underlayment. Clean it good. If you did spill something , don't bother trying to clean it. You'll find you wasted your time.

No display upon turn on

Did you press and hold the FN function key plus the key that toggles the display? In your case it might be the FN+F8 if F8 is the key that toggles the display.

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barely see the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If the video shows on the external monitor that proves your video card is ok, ,but your lcd screen is bad. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash light and nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card is bad.

If your video card is bad you will not see anything on the laptop's lcd screen or the external monitor.

My fn key wont work on toshiba sattelite pro

FN (Function Key) that is usually located near the bottom left on the keyboard is not a key that you press by itself to do anything. The FN key works in combination with the (F1 thru F12) and any other key that has the same symbol or color as the FN Key. You have to Press and HOLD the FN key while pressing another key.

If the FN key is Blue and for example your F8 key has a (white F8 on it and a Blue battery icon on it) then to see your battery metor (how much charge it has left) you would Press the FN and hold it then press the F8 key. The F8 that is white does not require you to press the Blue FN.

Sometimes the FN key might have a white square on it, then the keys that work with the FN key will also have a symbol with a white square around it.

Mke sure your displ;ay is selected, hold down the Fn key and press the F8 key.
Connect a know working monitor to the laptop, again hold down the Fn key while pressing the F8.
If the external monitor works then your display is defective, if not then the onboard video is defective and you will need to replace the mother board.

My HP Pavillion M70 monitor is saying "video cable connected?" when I try to use the monitor. I am trying to output my laptop to the monitor because my laptop screen is wearing out, but I cannot get it to...

go into the BIOS settings and tell it to use the LCD/Monitor as a display.

or

press fn key+(F5 or F7 or F8) 1x or 2x or 3x.....

Fn key combination. The Fn key is located at the lower left of the keyboard, normally between the CTRL and the ALT key. Toshiba uses Fn-F5 to toggle between the laptop LCD and an external display. IBM or Lenovo uses FN-F7, Acer varies with the model, using Fn-F5, Fn-F3, Fn-F8, Sony Fn-F7, Dell Fn-F8, HP or Compaq, Fn-F4. There are variations with the age of the laptop and not all manufacturers have standardized on a key combo across the whole range, but you can usually figure it out from the little graphics on the function keys that line the top of the keyboard.

Latitude d505 won't display image through projector. Being used with Sanyo plc XU41 and Promethean board. Board is interactive but no help if there is no image to see! Other Dell laptops work with this...

Dell laptops normally have a 3-way toggle for the display destination: 1=screen 2= external display and 3=Both. To toggle from one mode to the next press hold the 'FN' key (lower left corner of the Key board), and the briefly press the 'F8' key. Wait a few seconds for the hardware to catch up and you should see a display through the projector. If not, repeat the 'Fn' + 'F8' combo again.

You could also try running diagnostics to verify that teh video card is working properly. To do that, sthar with the laptop off. Hold the 'Fn' key down while you press the power button. Release both as the machine begins to boot up. It should start in diagnostics mode. Run the quick test and watch for the color bars. If you see then, the video card so=huold be OK.

Good luck, And please let me know how it turns out for you.

Which function key allows to switch to tv

Hi there,
You need to press hold the FN key and press the F4 function key once which toggles the display to the External Display source like the television connected along with the LCD of the Notebook.
If the FN and F4 key combination is pressed again, the display will dissappear from the LCD of the Notebook and remain only on the external source.
If the FN and F4 key combination is pressed third time, the display will be back on the LCD of the Notebook and will not remain on the External display source.
Here are these details in other way :
First time pressing FN + F4    ---> Display on LCD and External display
Second time pressing FN + F4 ---> Display not on LCD but on the External Display
Third time pressing FN + F4 ---> Display back on the LCD and not available on External Display (Normal position).
Below are the details of what the Function keys in your DV1000 Notebook work :
fn + f1 Opens Help and Support Center fn + f2 Opens print options window fn + f3 Opens default Internet browser fn + f4 Switches the image among displays fn + f5 Initiates Standby fn + f6 Initiates QuickLock fn + f7 Decreases screen brightness fn + f8 Increases screen brightness fn + f9 Plays, pauses, or resumes an audio CD or DVD fn + f10 Stops an audio CD or DVD fn + f11 Plays the previous track or chapter on an audio CD or DVD fn + f12 Plays the next track or chapter on an audio CD or DVD fn + esc Displays system information.* (*To clear the system information display, press esc.)
Hope this helps...
