I fixed this by applying a little bit of high temp grease to the bottom of the sliding door that is directly in front of the lens.
It as located under the PCB inside the unit.
Mine felt tough to move, then after the grease, it was much easier to slide.
After I put it all back together, no more red light.

I had the same fault - new lamp but got red light and fan running at high speed most of the time. However if I tried enough times the projector would eventually work.

Upon further investigation I found that the fault was related to the above mentioned sliding filter assembly located between the light box and the LCD assembly - However it was not that the sliding filter was sticky but that the motor/gearbox assembly that drives it was faulty. You can see a small black motor towards the front/center of the projector that drives the sliding lens. The motor drives a small black gearbox that in turn drives the slider. The gearbox is where the fault is - you need to remove the LCD assembly and lamp cover in one piece (about 8 black screws from memory) and then you can remove the small black motor/gearbox assembly (2 screws). With mine I found I could simply pull the output shaft of the gearbox out with very little force. This is because the shaft should be firmly bonded to a gear inside the gearbox, but becomes loose. The causes the drive gear to slip on the shaft and hence it doesn't have enough torque to move the sliding lens. You need to take the gearbox apart and re-glue the gear to the shaft. Another way to check for this fault is to unplug the motor from the main PCB (2 pin red and black wires) and run the motor from and external ~5V power supply. You will hear the motor running but the gearbox output shaft / gear will not be turning.

    Hope that helps!

    Cheers.

If you could tell us what model number projector this is, and how old is it, and how many hours the lamp has done, that would be helpful.

I have an epson 83+ that is a little over 2 years old and is acting the same way. Tried a known good bulb and it still does not work. The fan kicks up on high as soon as you turn it on and no picture displays.

Red lamp or heat light is flashing while projector is off. Can't be sure which it is because it is mounted 16' up. I've cleaned projector & filter with canned air from 12' ladder and red light stops...

Hi,
Here is some information on this model which I hope will help...
The lamp indicator lights when the lamp is due to be replaced. It will flash if a circuit abnormality is found.
The temp indicator lights if an abnormal temperature is detected. If it goes too high it will shut down flash.
The lamp indicator is furthest away from the power switch if that helps.
If the lamp timer was approaching the end of the lamp life you would see a REPLACE LAMP nag screen when the projector is turned on. The fact that you have not mentioned this suggests that this is unlikely to be the problem.
The filters on the model are on the underside. There is a removable panel directly under the lens. You should not use canned air as you are blowing dust into the projector. It is recommended that you use a vacuum cleaner. Filters should be cleaned every 100 hours and replaced when the projector is relamped. You can wash the filter by hand with water only, ensuring it is dry before replacing it. Do not run the projector without the filter in place.

Red power, blinking red temp

Hi,

if the Lamp error and Temperature error lights are flashing red this means that there are two separate errors.

  • A flashing lamp light means the lamp failed to ignite. It could be a lamp driver problem or lamp failure. Replace the lamp to resolve the issue. If the issue is not resolved, then service the projector.
  • A flashing Temperature light signals a fan error. Turn the projector off and allow it to cool down. If the light is still flashing after the projector is turned back on, service the projector.
Goodluck..

Infocus x1a shuts down after 5 minutes

3 red flashing is a lamp error, not the fans. the lamp has a problem striking. make sure it's pushed in and plugged in all the way. if the lamp is not that old, the power supply needs replacing.

Flasing red light

The flashing red indicates that either the fileter cover or the lamp cover is not installed correctly. If both are installed properly and secured, the unit will require service.

Green light flashing and then shuts down

Hi Gary

Have you resetted the lamp timer ? It must be done when a new lamp is inserted into the unit.

You can reset the lamp timer by holding the up arrow key on the Projector in until a online message appears. Then just follow the on-screen instructions.

If the problem persists , you will have to replace the Ballast wich is the lamp's power supply.

I'm having the same problem. My Model is PB8253. Projector started, then afer a couple minutes it goes off with the red lamp led flashing.
Just replaced the lamp, but the problem persists. Tried to remove all connecting cables, except for the power, but still the same problem.
