Hi, To check the software version and change
region code of your DVD Portable

1. Power ON the DVD player and open the DVD
door
2. Press the "SETUP" button on remote control,
then select the "Preference MENU"
3. Press the remote button in the sequence as
9 -> 6 -> 5 -> 3
4. The LCD display showed the existing region
code. Press (navigation up) or
(navigation down) repeatedly to select the
number from 0 to 6.
5. Refer below table for your region code setting
Region
1=USA
2=Europe
3=Asia Pacific
4=Australia, New Zealand
5=Russia, India
6=China

Select "0" setting = Region Free (confidential)

Hello Jose,

Although the solutions listed were from 2008, no firmware updates were issued for this player. The seven zeroes code should work for your player, unless you bought a later version of the player with different firmware for which this unlock code doesn't work. I'm not aware of any later versions.

I would advise you to try again and follow my instructions below very carefully. Sometimes the instructions given for unlocking DVD players are badly explained and/or miss a vital step.

LG DR389 Region Code / Hack

1. Switch on the TV and DVD recorder
2. Switch the TV to the correct input for the DVD player
3. OPEN the disc tray (and leave it open)
4. Press HOME on the LG remote
5. Open the SETUP menu
6. Highlight the PADLOCK icon but do not press the right arrow / enter the right side of the menu.
7. Enter 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 (seven zeroes)

A message should display on the TV screen to say "This player is now Region Free"

8. Switch the player to STANDBY/OFF (don't unplug it) then power on again.

It may take a couple off attempts to unlock the player. If it doesn't work, switch the player off, go back to step 1 and start again. If you are still unable to unlock your player, please let me know and I'll check for any other known unlock methods for this player.

Hi, well what you can do for SOME DVD is one can get a Region Code Hack, that will allow one to do as you wish. However NOT all players can be changed.
