Where is the 'Wireless Switch' on the IBM T42

The T42 has a bulit-in wireless network adapter and a LAN network card. T42s most likely have an Intel wireless card or less likely a Cisco wireless card.
Your wireless network adapter may have been disabled in the BIOS
and/or
The drivers for the wireless network controller has not been installed.

To check the network adapter go to the Control Panel, Click on System, click on Hardware Tab then Device Manager. Then scroll down and click on Network adapters. If you don't see your network controller or you see a yellow ? against Other devices for the Network controller. Then either it has been disabled and/or the driver was not installed.

To get the driver for the network controller you need to dowload it from the IBM/Lenovo WEB site their support/download page from a computer that has Internet access. Make sure you select your laptop model and the driver for your Windows version.
Install the driver and you then need to configure the wireless adapter to suit your wireless router settings before you can access the Internet.

This will help. Thanks please keep updated. please do rate the solution positively .Thank you for using Fixya

How do you install the wirleless router?

Hi,

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Network and Internet Connections.
3 Under or pick a Control Panel icon, click Network Connections.
4. Microsoft Windows XP displays your network adapters. Wireless network adapters are labeled Wireless Network Connection. If an adapter displays a red X, it is disconnected. If the Network Connections window is blank, your computer doesn't yet have a wired or wireless network adapter.

Good luck!
And Thanks.

Network Adapter/Ethernet Controller

Nothing wrong with having two network adapters installed on your computer. If you have this DWA-552 wireless adapter installed as well as an onboard NIC, the correct thing to do is have both drivers installed so you see them both in your Control Panel->Network Connections window.

If you really want the onboard nic to go away, go into device manager and disable it - not uninstall it.

Windows xp no longer recognizes my wireless antenna/program

To change windows to the controlling program, click on Start, then head over to Control Panel. Under Control Panel, double click on the icon for Network Connections. There, find the Wireless Network Connection. Right mouse click on it and go to properties. After the Properties Window pops up, Click on the Wireless Networks Tab. There, check mark the box which says "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings." This will activate windows control over the network card. Hopefully this helps.
