I cant get short root on my tomtom i had it on my old one.

Not all TomTom devices will accept an other boot version. You need a modern boot version, before you can upgrade your system. TomTom one with boot version 1, can't be updated. Same could go with very new TomTom devices. I run a GO740 live with Boot 5.51 and software 9.465 xxxxxxx Will accept all modern maps.
Bye the way. almost impossible to downgrade a TomTom.

My garmin shows only garmin logo. can not start. and my computer can not recognise it.

This is a boot-up issue. The unit MUST boot to the main menu before it can access the routines that communicate with a PC. Please see this link for further information on booting issues and how to get them resolved:

Garmin 1450 LMT Not loading past Garmin logo

The USB will not be recognized until the unit boots to the main screen. This is where the subroutine scans for the insertion of the USB cable. In order to fix this problem, you have to access the flash drive directly, bypassing the standard boot-up. The drive must be properly formatted, otherwise the Nuvi can not write to the flash drive on boot-up and will either go into a boot-up loop or stay stuck at the Garmin logo. Accessing the flash drive must be accomplished in pre-boot mode. there are several programs out there that can do this. Once the drive is properly formatted, the unit will boot, create the Garmin folder, write a few other folders and files and boot-to the main menu. Now, you can connect the cable as usual and start copying over your backed up files. I've repaired this issue many times.

Garmin 1340T boot loop issue. The unit

Unfortunately, there isn't an easy solution for the Nuvi owner as it requires a custom piece of firmware to flash the unit to make it at least boot. This problem is often caused during a failed firmware and/or map update.

It sounds like a file was corrupted. Sometimes it is better to connect the unit up to a PC, delete the old map and then proceed to install the new one. There are so many issues with memory space causing failed downloads and corrupted files.

If the map file is missing, the unit will boot-up OK, it will just say "Map data unavailable" but if the map file or associated map files are corrupted, it can cause the unit to crash. Your PC won't recognize the Nuvi because you have the reach the main screen before the data communication mode routines are accessed.

We've had some success in restoring some of these units by flashing a "fix" firmware in "pre-boot mode" that doesn't try to load the map or map associated files. This should then allow the unit to boot. Once the unit boots, Windows will recognize it and then you can copy a map over to it from the PC. Reboot the unit and then flash it with the standard firmware.

My nuvi 265w is freezing up or will not boot up past the Loading Maps screen.....boot

remove your SD card from the device and see if it passes boot screen and tells you that you have no maps
in that case your SD card is dead and you need to obtain new maps from garmin
if it still looks bad regarding booting - your device is faulty - so if still under warranty - send it to service

Locks up on boot

when it boots, press F8 select previous boot that worked...sounds like yu're having some disk issues, or you installed some driver that doesn't belong there...If it boots now, go to my computer, select the c drive with the right mouse, choose properties, choose options/extra check drive check both boxes and answer yes to a scheduled disk check. reboot the computer to fix the disk errors... what Pin Locked...

Pleino v-300

try turning it off, removing the memory card, then rebooting with the memory card NO installed, after it fully boots, turn it back off, reinsert the memory card and boot it again, it should be fully reset.

TomTom Go 300

boot up failure / switching off part way through the boot up is usually caused by corrupted data or files on your SD card.
When booting up with faulty data the TomTom has 3 options
  1. Continue to boot up and run the errored software
  2. Boot up until a file cannot be correctly loaded then shut down
  3. Try to boot up but if not possible show a RED X on the screen
The other cause for shutting down is a partly charged battery but since you are running off a charger lead this cannot be the case .
So , with the above in mind , its most likely that you have corrupted SD card . The only ways to recover from this is to format and re-install from a backup of the card. OR , it might be possible to overwrite some files or folders from a similar "friends" card in the hope that you overwrite the correct / corrupted file. This is a longshot in the dark but is a possible cure.

Good luck
