Question about Aiwa JAX-S5 CD Shelf System

1 Answer

Hey, So I have had this shelf system for years, and have loved it dearly. It has worked flawlessly until a couple days ago. I usually keep it turned on, with the volume around 20/30 set to aux for my computer. I realize that this is probably the cause of the problem. Needless to say, I went to use it the other day and it was on standby (red light on the power button was on, the display wasn't). I pressed the power and it made it's usually clink sound, the standby light went off for a second, the light in my room flickered (which I think is usual, but could indicate a short), but then it turned back off. The display never came on. I'm am thinking that there is some kind of issue with the power supply or maybe there is a short somewhere, any ideas? common problem?

SOURCE: Power Problem? My DS55 red standby light blinks at me and won't turn on.

I agree with your diagnosis. If one channel quit and the unit now ocassionally won't output at all then the amp is going into protect. Have it serviced.

I'm sorry but I don't have a listing for that model number. Many of hte Aiwa units use what is called a digital encoder. A call to Sony with the model number should get you the part number as well as the cost and availability. Aiwa is a brand of Sony.

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

I have a power star ae115 electric tankless water heater. It has performed flawlessly for approximately 5 years. A couple weeks ago it stopped producing HOT water but is still heating to Luke warm. The "...

5 years is about the lifespan for tankless.
You might have shorted element. That would explain cooler water and tripping reset.
Test element: power is off, disconnect wires from element; ohms = voltage squared divided by watt rating of element

Dear Sirs: I have a Weiser keyless locke

  • Take out batteries and unplug powerstrip.
  • Let it sit for 1 minute, then put the batteries back in and wait another minute.
I contacted customer support... they tell me the FAQ information on their own website is incorrect. The opposite is true, therefore the following is correct:
  • If it does not beep, the powerboard needs to be replaced
  • If the unit continues to beep, the keypad needs to be replaced
Here in Canada, they will send you a new one within 3-5 days free of charge. Call customer support:

CD tray doesn't open

if the unit actually tries to open but does not, it is not locked. a locked unit does not even try to open. it sound like a mechanical misalignment. take it back to get a new one, since it's only 2 days old.
