Sata -ii western digital 160gb hard drive
Check in your BIOS settings that SATA drives can be seen as "ATA"
Install Linux, and then , after everithing went OK, change BIOS to SATA again.

Let me know when it is not detecting while installing the Linux/add a new HDD in the linux system, if its happening during the installation then download the sata driver from the linux site which Linux you are installing then try it
