Try resetting the router back to factory default, and set up again with a new password. What make and model of router are you using? Just ran into this issue with neighbors 2 new Kindles, which connect fine to my NetGear router, but will not connect to their Linksys WRT54GS router.

I have been running a Linksys BEFSR41 version 2 wired router for over 5 years without any problems. My wife is a teacher and her school p[urchased new laptops recently so I decided to go wireless. Got on...

I think the most likely problem is that both routers are using different IP address ranges and won't allow data to pass between them.
I suggest you use only the Linksys wireless router.

How do i connect and get signal?

This is a common problem with Linksys wireless routers and primarily the WRT54G and WRT54GS. For some odd reason they all of a sudden go stupid and forgetful.

The easiest method to revive these routers is to go to the Linksys web site and get the automatic configuration download for your specific model of wireless router.

Hope this helps you

Check if your Dsl is up and running. Your Dsl modem should have a green led with a green light that most be solit green. Connect a cat 5E pach cable from the back of the modem ( it look like a phone pug but it is big er ) to the back of the router, in the port that is label WAN.

No conection to the internet

This is not a solution it is a request for information please do not rate this (yet anyway). The answers provided below may generate more questions. If you want me to help we are a team attempting to solve this issue. You are the hands and eyes of this team and only what you communicate here and do based on instructions will assist me in applying that information to an acceptable solution for you.

To connect a router to the internet you must configure it according to your internet security providers (ISPs) requirements where they permit such connections.

Can you provide a link to your ISP's support or help website?

If not can you provide the name of your ISP and the geographic area your service is located in (such as city and state assuming as your profile indicates you are in the US)?

Can you confirm your router's manufacturer and model as Linksys WRT54GS?

Can you look on the bottom probably on a label and find a Version number for your router and report it here?

Do you have a computer with a wired ethernet connection to test the internet connection before attempting to utilize the wireless capabilities of your router? Are you willing to do so to provide feedback to me as to the success of the router's internet configuration?

Please indicate if you you want to discuss securing the wireless connection? (This may be a wise decision if you do not want your neighbors using your internet connection and/or accessing your computers publicly shared folders, if you have any -- this is especially important if you do not intend to use the wireless capabilities for all the previous reasons.)

To do this you will need to provide the manufacturer and model
of each the Wireless Adapter or the computer with a built-in
wireless adapter you want to connect to your network?

Upon receiving that information we can discuss the options to secure the wireless connections to your system. These will allow you to make decisions on options as to what you are willing to do and maintain to secure your internet connection.

Linksys wrt54gs

Welcome to the wonderful world of networking, Henry! :)

The Speedtouch is a DSL modem and your router WILL require you to insert the information regarding the type of connection you are using.. DSL will usually use PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) and uses a Username and Password for the connection to be established...

If this were me, I would make a call to my ISP and verify the Connection Type and the Username / Password before going any further... If these are not correct, then you are just wasting your time..

BTW: just because your router tells you the configuration is successful does not necessarily mean you are connected.)
