The steel on the crank arm of my Monark 817e exercise bike broke, how do i remove it, it has no cover/nut/bolt/washer holding it to the axel

It's very difficult to find someone familiar with a particular model of a particular brand of exercise bike, but I pulled up some pics that seem to show that yours can have one of two types of crank. One is called a "one-piece" crank. Typically it is removed by unscrewing parts from the left side after removing the left pedal (left-hand/reverse threads). You may have to remove the housing to access and remove the parts. The other is a 3-piece cranks, and the arm will have a plastic cover at the axle. If you remove that dust cap you will see a bolt underneath. One has to remove that bolt and then use a specialized tool (crank extractor) to remove the crank arm. Check with a bike shop (take in the unit or take some good pics) for replacement.

How to Use a Cotterless Crank Puller Tool

How to Use a Crank Puller Tool

  • Crank pullers are commonly used to remove the crank arm from many types of exercise bikes. The tool can be used on most brands of indoor cycles and stationary upright or recumbent bikes. This tool cannot be used on bikes equipped with a 1-piece crank arm.
  • Using the crank puller is simple and easy; Start by removing the crank arm bolt.
  • First you will need to remove the plastic crank bolt cover from the crank arm to access the bolt. This can be done using a flat head screwdriver or a penny from your pocket.
  • Remove the crank arm bolt. This can require a hex wrench or a socket wrench.
  • Next, thread the crank puller tool into the crank arm in place of the crank bolt cover. Thread the tool into the crank arm several threads. It may be necessary to use a wrench to tighten further.
  • Now that you have this part of the tool threaded into the crank arm, turn the handle on the tool. As you continue to turn the handle of the tool, this pulls the crank arm off the bottom bracket shaft.

Stripped bicycle pedal

Better replace the pedal and most probably the crank arm as well. Sometimes a new pedal can cut the threads true again on the crank arm but the crank arm may need replacement too, depending on the damage. Remember to fit the correct side pedal. The pedal threads differ between left and right and pedals are usually marked "L" or "R".

How does a helicoil for stripped crank arm work?

I would just stop by a welding shop and have them weld the pedal arm on. You can buy another whole bike for what it costs to get a helicoil like that done. If it's the left hand thread, impossible.

Problem removing crank arm off of a mojave gulch bycicle from huffy

There's a special tool called a "crank puller" that has to be threaded in to the crank arms that are on your bike in order to remove them. An inexpensive version of the tool will cost around $10- which is about the same price as a shop would charge you for the work.
If you *do* want to remove them yourself, please be sure to thread the crank puller in perfectly straight and very, very carefully (backing in all the way out and starting over if you encounter resistance). Once you have threaded it almost all of the way in to the crank arm by hand, grab an adjustable wrench and tighten it down before you spin the handle to push the arm off of the bike. (If you fudge it and damage the threads inside the crank arm, you will have to pay a shop to bash them off instead- another special tool is used for that.)

Left pedal broke can i get replacement?

All depends on if you stripped the crank arm, you may have to replace your crank arm if you rode with a loose pedal. Pedals are sold in pairs, and there are 2 sizes, a one piece crank is 1/2" and 3 piece crank is 9/16", take your bike to the bike shop and they will tell you if you need a new crank arm or not. It will do no good to just replace your pedal if there is a bad crank arm thread, it will not hold.

The crank arm is stripped on the left side of the bike

Yes, the crank-arm could be replaced.
1.You would need to remove the flat nut holding the crank to the frame. And then take out the bearing.
2. A special open-ended wrench is required to remove this nut. Please visit your local bicycle shop for a new crank-arm, and the required tools, also.
3. Put in new crank-arm and its bearing.
4. Grease the bearing.
5. Tighten nut.
6. Give it a test ride.
