Where is the display card located on hp desktop

Display Card is also known as Graphics Card, or Video Card.
It is a separate adapter card that plugs into the motherboard.

On the graphics card is a GPU. Graphics Processing Unit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPU

(That is the Processor for the graphics card. The graphics card also has it's own graphics ram memory )

IF, a GPU is mounted directly to the motherboard, and not removable, (Therefore not replaceable), it is Integrated Graphics.
Also known as OnBoard graphics.

ON the motherBOARD.

Computer manufacturers, and consumers, erroneously refer to Integrated graphics as a graphics card.

Manufacturer's because they are trying to push a product, consumers because the industry has taught them wrong.

There are several styles of desktop computers. The two main styles with variations, is the 'pizza-box' style, and the tower style.

Depending upon the style, there may be a 'Daughter Card or Daughter board', placed in a slot on the motherboard.
In a slot on the daughter card, the graphics card is placed.

There are 3 main types of graphics expansion slots used. (Older one is ISA, but left out due to age)

PCI, AGP and PCI-Express.
These are technologies. They are also the names of the individual graphics expansion slots, the graphics card sits in.

PCI;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Local_Bus

The slowest of the technologies. Uses a parallel bus, and is handled by the Southbridge chip. (Of the motherboard chipset)

Usually whitish in color. 164 contact pins long. 82 on each side.

AGP:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGP

Technology that came out for graphics cards after PCI.
Usually Brown or Black in color, but can be any color. Is shorter in length than a PCI slot, and has a Locking Lever.

Located in-between the PCI slots, and the Processor.

PCI-Express:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

Latest technology. Started as PCI-Express 1.0, went to 1.1, then 2.0, then 2.1
Is now at PCI-Express 3.0

Longer than a PCI slot. Colors vary. Has a Locking Lever.
ONLY a PCI-Express x16 slot is used for a graphics card.

Not a PCI-Express x1 slot. (Or PCI-Express x4 slot)

That is the best I can do, until you post the Product Number in a Comment.

This is located on the back of your desktop computer, next to the Windows product key, or up on the side of the tower.

White Service Tag. P/N = Product Number

(NOTE*
S/N = Serial Number. DO NOT give out the serial number on a public forum )

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Is there anything you need to do before or after upgrading your memory card in an hp laptop

If this in reference to the Ram Memory module/s, the answer is No.

Things to know about upgrading Ram Memory in a computer.
A) What is the Maximum TOTAL Amount for the computer. (Motherboard)
B) What is the Maximum Amount for EACH ram slot.
C) What Type of Ram Memory does the computer support. (Motherboard)
D) What frequency rate of Ram Memory does the computer support. (Slang for Frequency Rate is 'Speed')

If you have the correct Ram Memory, and are only installing 1 Ram Memory module, be sure to install it in Slot 1. (Also referred to as DIMM 1)

This is the Ram Memory slot the Processor reads first.

If I knew what HP laptop computer this was, such as the Product Number, and I knew what Ram Memory you are installing, I could help you further.

On the bottom of the laptop is a white Service Tag.
P/N = Product Number
(S/N = Serial Number. Do Not give this out online, except to HP Support)

If your problem does not regard Ram Memory, please disregard this solution.

Athlon processor upgrade assistance:

Go to this link:

http://us.msi.com/?func=searchresult&keywords=ms-7025

Select the model motherboard you have and click on the CPU support link, it will show you a list of CPU's that are supported. You have a socket 939 board and AMD CPU's are now AM2, AM2+ and AM3 socket, which are 940 pin. It may be difficult to find a new CPU for your motherboard that is new since they have not been made in awhile.

What type of video card can i add to this motherboard. I want to replace the monitor with a 22" Samsung LCD flat panel. Do I look for an AGP card or a PCI card? What is the max Ram size? ie: 256/512 etc....

If you have an AGP slot available, use it. If not, you'll need to get a
PCI card. The motherboard does not care how much memory is on the video card.
As for the motherboard itself, go on the HP site and enter your computer model number (not the motherboard number) and see if you can pull up the specs on upgrading your memory. Also, any reliable memory vendor will be able to tell you how much memory the motherboard will handle.

HP C5180 All-in-one : Memory Card Error, No memory card in it

  1. Remove the memory card from the camera.
  2. Locate the memory card slot on the product that is compatible with your memory card. Figure 1: Memory card slot locations c01331721.jpg 1 - CompactFlash (I, II) 2 - Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard (MMC), Secure MultiMedia Card 3 - xD-Picture Card 4 - Memory Stick, Magic Gate Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo (with user-supplied adapter), Memory Stick Pro 5 - Front universal serial bus (USB) port (PictBridge-enabled)
NOTE: Some portable USB flash drives with a read-only partition, such as U3 smart drives, might be incompatible with the front mass storage port on your product. These partitions are added by the manufacturer and may include utilities and other software. Refer to the manufacturer for additional details about your drive.
  3. If it is not already on, turn the product on by pressing the power button (c01324469.gif ).
  4. Turn the memory card so that the label faces inward and the contacts face the product. Figure 2: Inserting the memory card c01335108.gif CAUTION: Inserting the memory card in any other way might damage the card and the product.
  5. Gently push the memory card into the memory card slot until it stops. The memory card does not insert all the way into the product; do not try to force it.
  6. When the memory card is inserted correctly, the status light next to the memory card slots flashes and then remains solid green. CAUTION: Never attempt to remove a memory card while it is being accessed. Doing so can damage files on the card. You can safely remove a card only when the status light next to the memory card slots is not blinking. Do not pull out a memory card while the light is flashing green.

Trying to locate where to put a memory card

Hello, was wondering if you meant memory card or memory chip. If it is a chip, it goes next to the other memory chip in the slot. Must be right memory or the motherboard may fry out.
If it is a memory card, you must have SD-MS slot. If you do not have the slot, you can by one and hook it up to the pci slot.
