Memory modules are detected, but a memory failure has occurred.

If you have two or more memory modules installed, remove the modules, reinstall one module, and then restart the computer. If the computer starts normally, reinstall an additional module. Continue until you have identified a faulty module or reinstalled all modules without error.

I'd have to look at a manual but i'd say you have a ram problem. I will look at he manual and if you have one you should look as well. How much ram do you have?

You can try> it's possible but unlikely that it came loose or is dislodged unless you knocked it over or something but by all means i'd try it. If you only have one stick you can't really test your system. You'll ahve ot get anither one and, pull the old one out and restart. If it boots you found your problem. You may want to add the second one anyway. More ram is better and faster.I did look at the manual and it's definately the ram.

Dell error code 0142. Status 72

This is sounding like a hardware problem--possibly memory.
A Dell has a built-in diagnostic program that you can access when you first start your computer.
When you first turn it on, you'll see a message at the bottom of the screen that tells you to press (F12, I think) for boot options. Once you press that you'll get a menu that will allow you to select a boot device. Another option just below the devices is the diagnostics option. Select that and run a system diagnostics. It will pick up any hardware problems you have.

Hi, I have a dell dimension 5100. I inserted a 1gb ram but it was the wrong one. I took it out and replaced it with the old ones. Now the computer doesn't boot properly - turns on but doesn't load...

Remove all the memories and insert them again, make sure you insert them in the proper way as the slot is keyed.
Memory issues can be identified by the beep sounds.
If you have more than one memory, remove one and insert only one of them and try to boot.
Hope this will help.

Dell Dimension 9200 keeps shutting down and won't start up

the key issue on the uncommanded shutdown is the POWER LED. If upon shutdown, the power LED Flashes AMBER, then the power supply is suspect.

If no flashing amber indication, then the next think I check is the heatsink (Processor overheating) remove, clean and apply arctic Silver heat transfer paste, see if the issuje goes away

Last but not least if the system is failing to boot, and displays a 3 4 diag LED code, then you may have a RAM module that is bad or may just need reseating. Running diags off of the Rersoujrce CD is something to look at too
