If you have no power this is often caused by a thermal fuse that opens up when the temperature is exceeded in the coffee maker. The unit will need to be dis-assembled to assess the situation, some use a power transformer with a built in thermal fuse.

How do I locate the thermal fuse? I can't find any diagrams or schematics online.

  • John Cunningham May 06, 2012

The thermal fuse is located on the heating element, it should have the temperature marked on it and must be replaced with the identical value. The part is silver and pointed at the one end with long leads.

I forgot to mention the on/off switch should be checked, fails on occassion.

Hi,

The problem is often that the machine develops a leak in the hose that is rightover the transformer...the water drips onto the transformer and kills that...then you have no power to run the machine.

Brewer was working fine in the morning, now is off and wont turn back on, curcuit breaker is fine, machine is plugged in. Any ideas?

Test your outlet with another appliance first.

Sometimes a safety trip breaker, such as those installed as bathroom outlets, get tripped and need to be reset. Make sure to press the "reset" button on your outlets. On the same circuit but in a different room, it sometimes gets overlooked as a solution.

If problem is still evident I would contact the manufacturer. Often times they will replace the appliance free but leaving you to pay for the shipping, sometimes only being $10.

I just tried the solution from comment dated 1/13/10. I took out the water tank and reseated it. As I did that, I noticed a small gap at the top back of the tank, that it wasn't resting completely against the unit well. I pushed it back and it has not shut off since.

Why is my coffee maker not working

I will assume the outlet is working and there is no timer that is set to turn the coffee maker on later. There are a few possibilities 1- the switch is defective 2 - there is a temperature sensor in contact with the heating element that is defective 3- the element itself is defective. these parts are all internal and may not be easily accessible without proper tools. All the components can be checked with an ohm meter. Also check for loose or broken wiring connections.

Cuisinart DCC-1000 shuts off on it's own

Unplug it for 20 minutes or longer to fully reset it. At that point, the default shut-off time will be two hours, unlss you use the auto-off to increase this time limit to 3 or 4 hours.

Jura capresso shuts down

It is possible that the timer unit in the maker is defective and need to be replaced. I would suggest you move the coffee maker to a different outlet and see if you have the same problem. If there is a short in the mechanism or a bad connection in the timer it could be experiencing a thermal shutdown.

Pot keeps shutting off after coffee completely brewed.

This may be an electrical issue, but I would try holding in the on/off button for a few seconds and see if it still displays 2 hrs as the auto-off time. If 2 hrs does display correctly, unplug the unit for 16 minutes or longer - do not plug it back in a single second shy of 16 minutes. Then reset the clock and reprogram the auto-off Try one more time.

If that fails, it may be replacement time.
