Question about Acer Aspire One PC Notebook

1 Answer

As we power on screen goes grey, and Copyright information come up along with Check cabel connection, and PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM. No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key. This message repeats and you end up Cntr Alt Delete to log off and try to restart. If you start quickly and press F2 or F10 you can restore original defaults, but that has not changed the start up procedure.

Go to CMOS setting as you do when setting it to defaults, find the HDD drive then set it to IDE, sometimes setting it to default causes it to return to sata mode so find this option. if the problem continues then replace the HDD of your laptop.

My gateway says "Check cable connection!PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM. No bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key". What should I do?

Sounds like the hard drive isn't getting power, the data cable to the drive isn't connected,or the drive controller on the motherboard is toast(I'm a novice tinkerer, not an expert).

You get this kind of message when the laptop could not identify that there is a hard disk drive installed inside the laptop. Check your hard drive & make sure it is not dead.

A "media test failure, check cable" means your hard disk failed. The bios can not locate the boot sector of the hard disk to begin loading the operating system.
"Operating system not found" means windows can't load because the Bios can not find the operating system (because the hard disk failed).

This is pretty much an unrecoverable error in terms of fast fixes. You can take the hard disk to a data recovery service if you need to retrieve important data or files.

If you have a BOOT CD then try to boot and go to windows.
Or you can use windows setup CD but go for repair only.
For the future it is a good idea to INSTALL WINDOWS in a USB mini drive and boot the computer from USB. You have to go to BIOS and set USB default drive.
It is a good idea to clone your HD in a CD.
