Question about Dell Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
I will give you two ways to check your sound.
1 If you have a speaker symbol in your taskbar at lower right of your screen, right click on it. Click on "playback devices" A window should pop up with your devices. If it's on board sound would probably be Realtek and show up as HD device, Anyway, right click on it and you should see "disable". If you see "enable", click on that and exit. If you don't see anything in window, click on empty window then click on "show disabled devices" If anything pops up right click on that and click "enable". If you have enabled your device, right click on speaker again and click on "open sound mixer" and adjust your volume. By the way, did your speaker have a red x on it before? Does it now?
2 Click "start" in lower left of your screen. find "control panel", click on and open. In your list(icons) find "device manager". Right click on that, open and click continue. Click on the box with + next to "sound audio and game controllers". You will see a drop down with your device(s). Right click on your device and you should see "disable". If you see "enable" click on that and exit. Right click on your device again and click on the "properties tab. You should see "this device is working properly" Now go back to speaker symbol and adjust your volume.
Does SP1A refer to a service pack you just installed? Taht may be what knocked out your sound. If this did not help you or if you have any questions let me know at "add a comment"
