Question about KitchenAid KAWS700L Top Load Washer

1 Answer

KitchenAid washer (model: KAWS700JQ) 1st load washed fine with a weird noise; 2nd load washed but did not spin to rinse; water drained and I could hear a "spinning" sound (as well as a sound that didn't sound so good), but the agitator would not/will not turn. Water did drain completely when I ran it on the rinse cycle. The dog ears seem to be in good working order, but I've never looked at those before so I'm not positive. When I took it out and manually turned the clutch cam (whatever it's called that houses the dog ears) at least 3 dog ears would catch on the teeth at any one time, but not all 4 at the same time. Do I need to replace the motor coupling or is this possibly a problem with the transmission? Or something else entirely. I'd love to fix this myself, but if this needs a professionals attention I'm not opposed. Many thanks for your help and suggestions. sarah

    Hi Keith,

Thank you very much for your help. I'm glad it seems like a not-so-expensive fix....a little time-consuming though, but I think I can do it.

I'm going to replace all the parts you mentioned b/c it's an 11 year old washer and I don't think it could hurt to do so.

So, can you verify/confirm I have the below-mentioned parts listed correctly as what you suggested to replace:

    1) motor coupler
replace it like it is shown in this video?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K1KHEogf...

    2) clutch (meaning the complete clutch assembly?) as in this video?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVc6SZ2DD...

    3) dog ears (do they have a more technical name, b/c I can't seem to find that part listed on the Sears site)

I appreciate your help with this.

    Sincerely,
    sarah

Classic signs of a coupler gone bad.

While you are in there you might as well check the clutch also.

And the dog ears also. Under 75.00 for all three...new washer.

if you need procedures on any of these please post and I will get them for you.

but all are in video format on youtube.com

My Kenmore compact washer with dryer on top, will not go from the first wash-rinse-drain-spin cycle to the second rinse-drain-spin-off cycle.

Check and make sure the door is pushed all the way down until you hear a click. If it starts with the next cycle, then your door switch may be bad. It's a pretty easy fix, but I would watch a video at least before doing it yourself.

Sounds like clutch not catching, this may need to bed in .The fact it works okay with no load and no spin with load sounds like clutch/ but also could be motor torque.Ask repair man to recheck work done.

Most possibly be Error code 56,
Is common in 11 series machines & early series 12.
Is your machine beeping & showing a weird pattern of lights on the wash cycle, It is displaying an error code,
To read this error code you start at the red spin light & work to the left only add up the lights that are on. Red spin light = 1 2nd rinse light =2 1st rinse light =4 last wash light=8 4th wash light=16 3rd wash light=32 2nd wash light=64 1st wash light=128

Describe your kitchenaid clothes washer KAWE450VWHO Problem will not spin or drain water.

If it makes any noise when it SHOULD be draining and spinning, it's most likely your motor coupler. It couples the motor to the transmission and takes the place of a belt. If the machine it completely silent and just stops when it gets to the rinse/spin cycle, then it's probably the lid switch. Hope this helps.

Machine will not spin or drain water.

I have a problem with my MW512AU. Sometimes it drains after wash cycle, but sometimes it sticks when it goes to spin, doesn't get up to speed, water comes on for about 10 seconds and shuts off, and it tries to spin again. If I hit the wash progress switch it goes directly to final spin and works ok. I then have to run a 2nd wash cycle to rinse the clothes. I also noticed a buzzing sound when I turn on the power point, which lasts about 3 seconds before stopping. It will come back on every 3-4 minutes for 30 seconds. This is with the machine power switch off. It powers on normally.

Kenmore front-load washer stops at rinse cycle

When the washer initially fills for the wash, is it only hot water entering the drum? Try switching the water temperature between hot and cold as it fills. If any of them show little or no water getting through, it sounds too easy but check to make sure water supply taps are on, and that the cold/hot fill hoses aren't reversed. Remove the fill hoses and check any of the screen filters for blockage (in the hoses and in the inlet water valve). When the machine stops and waits to fill but all you hear is a hum, it sounds like there is power going to the valve but water is not able to get through it.
Good luck!

My Kitchenaid washer stops on the rinse cycle...

Do you have an age of the machine and model number? Is there a "spin only" cycle? On older machines, there was a center knob you could slowly rotate, one click at a time, to advance it through its cycle. Can you do that? If the unit is agitating, I don't believe the belt is your issue. Age and model please.
