You should let a pro do this...too much oil and in the wrong place, can harm th unit. You can put a couple of drops on the carrier rails. Long silver rods theat the print wheel assembly travels on.
Hope this helps

Ibm wheelwriter typewriter will not return all of the way

HI:

Take a rag with some light oil like 3 in 1 oil or WD 40 and clean off the metal rod that the carrier moves across. Then apply some more around the entire rod with your fingers. The carrier should move much better after that.

IBM Wheelwriter 3 squeaks.

The squeaking is caused by lack of lubrication on the Platen (roller) bearings..the feed rolls that grip the platen or the linespace mechanism. Have to be careful on too much oil..I just put a drop on a corner of a piece of paper and touch what you want to oil..it will **** the oil right off the paper. a light oil like gun or sewing machine oil.
Hope this helps

IBM Wheelwriter 3 spacing

The first thing to do is to put some WD40 on the silver shaft that the carrier slides on, if that dosen't do it either the gear on the carrier motor is cracked or the keyboard is bad. With the machine off slide the carrier back and forth if you get a tight spot every few inches the carrier motor gear is cracked.

Wheelwriter 3 printwheel

If you know where the print solenoid is try a few drops of oil on the front and rear of the plunger. If the pad needs replaced it can be done without removing the printer from the machine but it is tough. If you know how to remove the printer take it out, remove the printwheel, there are two screws that hold the solenoid once the dolenoid is out the installation is simple.

try turning the machine off put a SMALL amount of oil on the large round rod running across the typewriter manually push the print head left and right a few times to see if it will loosen up. The problem is usually caused be drying oil you may consider having it serviced by a pro.

try wiping the large bar that runs left to right under the carrier with a cloth wet with a light oil and then move the carrier by hand to see if it will free up. Be sure the typewriter is turned off.
