Question about Epson Perfection V500 Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

My Epson V500 is being difficult. It seems to function fine in the fully auto mode, but that's not much use to me. In the Home mode, it scans the images but cannot make the last step of saving them. In the Professionsl mode -- the one I use -- here's the problem: I initiate the scan and the light under the scanner bed comes on. The light shuffles back and forth an inch or so, the scanner makes all the right sort of noises, then it sits there with the light on but not moving. It will do a preview scan in Professional and the other modes. I hope it's not a terminal issue; I can't afford to replace it!

Thanks for the ideas -- but I had tried them already & no luck. I tried them again anyway, but still no luck. It's sitting there right now with the light on but the light's not moving. The green light on the front of the scanner is blinking and the dialogue box on my computer thinks a scan is being done; it's giving me the amount of time left and the green bar shows progress. But, it's not doing anything except turning the scan light on.

Old post but I just fixed this issue by plugging the scanner directly into my iMac rather than thru my usb hub. Check that if you are using a hub.

It doesnt sound like a terminal issue it sounds like a driver issue i would re install the drivers and software (if yuou lost the disk you can download it from epson) also keep your scanner unplugged for about 10 minutes to reset it

    did that help sir?

  • brian shevack Mar 28, 2011

sounds like the actual firmware on the scanner may be bad. id hesitate to go as far and say the scanner is bad because you can scan in other modes in some ways. very odd did more research for you and have not found anyone else or had anything remotely similar to this issue

its possible they are right, But try puting acoulpe of sheets of plain white paper behind the transparency before copying as a buffer . The scanner is seeing the transparency reflected back causing distortion. with the paper blocking the reflection, it should scan perfectly

Epson v500 not able to scan negatives! When I open uop the software, they don't even give me the option to scan negatives, just photos!

You probably need to reset (not reload) the scanner software. Start the Epson scan software. Select professional mode from the pull down menu (it lets you choose between auto, home and professional.) On the next screen select at the very bottom select configuration. The next screen should have 4 tabs, select other. The at the bottom (I think) select restore to factory defaults. This will reset your software, now you can use auto mode if you want it to make all your selections or home if you want some control or professional if you want to control everything. Don't forget to use your film holder that came with the unit and remove the white cover that is locked underneath the lid that covers the film illumination bulb.

Placing your materials on the document table
Starting the software and scanning an image
EPSON Scan provides three modes for you to make any scanning settings; Full Auto Mode, Home Mode, and Professional Mode. This section describes how to scan an image in the Full Auto Mode. The Full Auto Mode lets you scan images using automatically-adjusted settings. For more details, see Choosing a Scanning Mode.
Note:

You cannot scan an image with a size that exceeds the available memory or disk space. If you try to scan the image, an alert appears on the screen.
Note for Macintosh users:

Most illustrations shown in this section are for Windows, so they may vary in appearance from what actually appears on your screen. The instructions are the same, except as noted.
Caution:

Before starting the following steps, make sure that all the necessary software including EPSON Scan has been installed. For details about how to install the software, see the Start Here sheet.
Turning on the CX6600
Before turning on the CX6600, make sure it is connected to your computer.
Press the On button to turn on the CX6600. All mode lights flash, then the mode button for the mode you used last lights, meaning it has completed its initialization.

Placing your materials on the document table
You can scan reflective documents (like photos or paper). See Placing Photos and Documents on the Document Table.

Starting the software and scanning an image
You can start EPSON Scan in the following ways.
* Start EPSON Scan directly as a stand alone application
* Start EPSON Scan from a TWAIN-compliant application
This section provides information on how to start EPSON Scan from ArcSoft PhotoImpression. For details on starting EPSON Scan as a stand-alone application, see Starting EPSON Scan.
Note; if you are using Windows 98:

ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5 supports Windows 98 Second Edition or later. For version earlier than Windows 98 Second Edition, use EPSON Scan or other TWAIN compliant applications. See Starting EPSON Scan for details.
Start ArcSoft PhotoImpression.
For Windows users:
Click Start, point to All Programs (for Windows XP users) or Programs (for Windows 98, Me, or 2000 users), and select ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5. Click PhotoImpression 5.
For Macintosh users:

Note for Windows XP users:

Do not choose WIA-Epson Stylus CX6600 from the menu to select the CX6600. If you select it, you cannot use the Epson scanner function fully.
EPSON Scan automatically previews the image, and recognizes the document source and type.
If you want to select more settings, click Pause, then click Options to open the Options dialog box. For more details on settings, click the Help button in the Option dialog box.
After EPSON Scan has previewed and recognized the document type, the following window appears. You can see the document type in the window.
EPSON Scan automatically locates the target images, modifies their skew, and starts scanning.
Caution:

Do not open the scanner unit during scanning or copying; otherwise, you may damage the CX6600.
Note:

Be aware that clicking Cancel on this screen closes EPSON Scan.
The scanned image is sent to ArcSoft PhotoImpression.
Note:

* Depending on the image you want to scan, you may not get the expected scanned image. In this case, scan the image in the Home Mode or Professional Mode.

* When you scan in the Full Auto Mode, black and white documents might be recognized as a color document. In this case, scan the image in the Home Mode or Professional Mode.
If you still experience problem scanning, un-install the entire software and re-install them all over. Install all the packages in the CD. Cheers!

How to scan on an Epson Stylus DX4400

To scan an image into your PC you need to use a piece of software called the Epson Scan Utility. This
comes on the installation CD with the printer but if you don't have the CD it can be downloaded from
Epson Support. For Europe:
http://esupport.epson-europe.com/SupportHome.aspx?lng=en-GB&data=0ccCGROWIYM58zV3pqc84YT0DcLI1RrpNUFXBv2
99cYU003D
Or US:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportIndex.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes
Once it is installed it will put an icon on the desktop, or (if you have Windows) a folder in the Start
menu. Turn the printer on and start the Epson Scan utility (it doesn't work if the printer is off), it
can be used in 3 modes: Fully Auto, Home Use or proffessional. Fully auto is the simplest, just click
on the scan button. For the others be brave and experiment!

Scanning on an epson dx4400

To scan a picture into your PC you will need the Epson Scan program installed on the PC. This program comes on the CD with the printer, but if you don't have the CD it can be downloaded from Epson:

It may already be installed, if you have Windows go to the Start menu and look for Epson Scan Utility. Turn the printer on and place your photo on the glass under the scanner cover. Click on Epson scan and you can choose 3 methods. Fully automatic, home mode or proffessional mode. fully automatic is the simplest method, simply click on the scan button.
