Question about RCA Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

I have a Nov. 1998 RCA Compact Audio System (RP-9316B) that works great except for the 3 disk CD component. A few years ago, it started acting up---it wouldn't read the disks in the tray and it would either take a couple of tries taking the disk out and putting it back in the tray to get it to work or it would say "no disk" even though there was at least one in there. A month ago, it stopped recognizing disks altogether----just said "no disc". I tried some of the ideas on the web that people have tried with the same problem with no success (carefully tilting the entire cabinet when the disc was moving into place to be read worked a few times but wasn't effective after that. I did remove the cabinet top and carefully examined it today to see if the drawer was out of alignment and tightened 2 screws on the gears below the darwer that were loose. Now it reads my disks (shows the # of songs and total length on the screen) and the disk spins but I have no sound. This is an improvement from before but I would like to know what you may think is causing the lack of sound. The radio and cassette components do have sound.

SOURCE: My computer won't read my RCA lyra opal mp3 player. Please help!!!!!

its not your son's fault. Apparently this product sucks. I contacted RCA and they told me that if i had my receipt they'd send me a refurbished product or to send in $55 and they'd fix it. apparently MANY other people have problems with this product. My suggestion is if you have the packaging and receipt just choose another product. RCA knows this product sucks yet wont recall or help in fixing it.

Sounds as though you may need to reinstall the driver for the laptop's cdrom drive. The easiest way I've found to do this is to download it directly from the manufacturer's web site; In your case, look here:

Download the file to your desktop (file name is sp30367.exe), and run the installation to reinstall & update the DVD/CD-ROM drivers.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: RCA audio system, and three disc.

I always encountered that kind of problem, the audio works but discs player not working. This kind of a problem of a disc player had three causes, first the lense is busted already secondly the MPEG MEMORY IC is busted, thirdly the roller that's moving back and port bringing the lense set stock up full of dirt this is most common problem. That why whateveryou did is not functioning. If you know how to open your unit it's better. First you do is to clean the roller with the use of a lighter fluid to take the old greases that already harden with dirt. After that all is clean put a first class greases type-A only little to the roller and wipe the lense with a cotton buds. If all this procedure nothings happens, you better change the lense with desame code number, to avoid conflict. If the lense is change still not functioning that's the time you change the MPEG memory IC.I assure it to you it's works 100%.

SOURCE: CD Player stopped working

Probably there is dust on the lens. My CD player (different brand) did the same. I opened the case and cleaned the lens with a photo camera brush (VERY gently). Now it works fine.

If you cannot / do not want to open the device to access the lens, you may want to buy a cleaning CD.

I have an RCA RP-8530 compact audio system and the CD player will not open. I seems stuck. Any suggestions on how to repair?

CD drawers are normally driven by a small rubber belt that comes off or snaps. If you take the top cover off the unit you might be able to find the belt. If it's broke just measure the diameter in MM and put that into Google with the words "drive belt".

There may be a CD stuck inside or the eject mechanism may be weak or failed. Disassembly may be required to solve the problem.

I need a power cord for RP-7986 AM/FM Stero Radio/Cassette Recorder/Compact Disc Player.

Depending on where you live, you can find them at Radio Shack, Walmart, most discount electronics parts stores, etc. They are universal except for the physical plug style at the unit side. Best bet is to take the unit with you if possible for a perfect match. Hope this helps

Tray B of my RCA CD Burner does not recognize any CDs

Are you using the correct disc type??

The manual states that only discs that are labeled:

"Compact Digital Audio Disc Recordable" (Audio CDR)

"Compact Digital Audio Disc Rewritable" (Audio CD-RW) can be used.

The popular discs labeled "Compact Recordable" and Compact Disc "Rewritable" are for use in computers, and can NOT be used on the recorder.

Page 16 of the manual shows the graphic of the logos detailed above. The manual can be downloaded for free below:

I have an RCA RP 9325

I had the same problem years ago. I was told that the laser that scans the disc was substandard / weak. I had it worked on 4 different times. It would work fine for a while and then it would gradually start going bad again. I finally had to give up on the CD player and I just use it for the surround sound when I watch movies. I don't know if this was a design flaw on all units or just random parts that were bad.
