Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

My sub zero model 642 leaks water from the bottom. when you take out the crisper drawers the coil looking tube behind there is full of water. I can't remove the tube to "blow it out" or to try to empty it out. The tube doesn't have screws or any clamps that can be removed so as to pull it away from the back wall. I've tried to take q-tip kind of thing to "absorb" as much water as possible, but not very effective. any thoughts?

Yes try boiling water and if you have a 1/4" plastic tubing like what they use on icemakers and boil some water in a pan and then siphon the water into the drain and try to push the tubing down inside the drain as your doing it to unclog/unfreeze anything in there. The tubing will get hot while your doing this you'll need a towel to wrap the tubing so you dont get burnt. Its either frozen or clogged, more than likely clogged on this model i believe. Let me konw if you need further assistance.

i'll have to go to hardware store tomorrow to purchase 1/4" tube. i'll let you know if it works. it also says "vacuum condenser". The "loovered vent thing" is above the doors. I unscrewed the piece and tilted it out and vacuumed but blinking light still on. Are they talking about something behind the fridge, so i have to pull it out from the wall and vacuum behind it ?

How old is the unit, This sounds like you have a bad thermostat, and its stuck on, causing it to freeze the drain tube which is causing your current problem, the blinking light is because the unit is running too long because of the stuck thermostat, this should disappear with replacement of thermostat.

Refrigerator sub zero 736 TC water leaking under vegetable drawer

Usually from plugged evaporator drain tube.

remove all the drawers and unscrew the frame that holds the drawers. Free the the drain tube (need to unscrew the clamps that hold the tube to the back wall). Pull it up from the bottom hole where it drains into the pan and free it from the top drain pan. Most likely it\'s plugged with crap and fungus and yecchy stuff. Clean it out and reinstall it.

Hi,

Behind the crispers and the shelves at the bottom is a drain trough. This drain trough is clogged and would need to be cleared by air pressure. You can use canned air you can seal the opening to keep the pressure in the tube. Once cleared you should be fine.

This happens when food or foreign object get into this trough clog or slow water flow out of the fridge section.

I hope this helps.

Although my sub zero 642 is holding the temperature, there is water leaking from underneath the refrigerator every day onto the floor. Sometimes it is heavier than others.

it's condensate from the evaporator coils. when the humidity collects on the coils, it should drain into a pan under the fridge that gets evaporated from the hot-side line. check to see if the condensate tube from the coils is still in the pan.

remove the crisper drawers and you will see a drain trough and a drain line . One or both is most likely blocked. If you pull the drain line off the trough usually you can clear it with a turkey baster filled with hot water

Sub Zero 632 leaking water

Had the same problem on the same model (632). Turned out to be a plugged drain tube on the condensate collection trough located on back wall of the refrigerator. Simply pull out the crisper drawer (the drawer below the lowest shelf) and you'll bee the trough. The drip tube can easily be plugged by a vegetable leak or grape, etc which had fallen into this trough. Hope its as simple for you as for us.

The tube behind the crisper drawers is not insulated well enough and will repeatedly freeze, leaving the water to drain on your floor. The solution is to thaw the tube and put a piece of copper the length of your tube, into the area below. The wire extending into the area below is just warm enough to keep the tube from freezing.
