Ink cartridges have different compartments for each color, sometimes when one color runs out, even though the cartridge looks like it has ink in it, it will not work since a specific color is missing.

you must replace the cartridges, or continue to use them missing that particular color.

Can you tell me how to change ink on an epson stylus cx400

The Epson Stylus CX6400 is an all-in-one printer that also features a scannermag-glass_10x10.gif for scanning and copying. The Epson CX6400 prints with ink via four separate ink cartridges in black (high or standard capacity), cyan, magenta and yellow. The cartridges sit in slots in a cartridge holder underneath the scanner. As cartridges run low, or cartridge print quality problems arise, ink cartridge replacement become necessary. As each cartridge snaps effortlessly into the cartridge holder, changing cartridges doesn't require much effort beyond unsnapping the old cartridge from the holder and replacing it with a new one. jQuery('.intro .thumbnail').each(function(i,e){ jQuery(e).find('img').one('error',function(){ jQuery(e).remove(); }); }); Instructions
  1. Step 1 Turn on the CX6400.
  2. Step 2 Check the ink levels for each cartridge. Press the "Setup" button to enter the setup mode. Press the topmost button on the left side of the LCD repeatedly until you reach the Ink Levels screen and then press the "Color" button to see the ink level percentages (for example, 0 percent or 50 percent) scroll across the screen for each cartridge (C for cyan, M for magenta, Y for yellow and K for black). Press the "OK" button to exit.
  3. Step 3 Select the empty cartridge or low cartridge option on your printer. If you're dealing with one or more empty cartridges, press the "Color" button. If you've decided to replace low ink cartridges, press the "Setup" button, press the topmost button on the left side of the LCD repeatedly until you reach the Replace Ink screen and then press the "Color" button.
  4. Step 4 Reach into the slots on both sides of the printer under the scanner unit. Lift the scanner unit up carefully to reveal the cartridge holder on the right side of the printer. Lean the scanner back to rest on its hinges.
  5. Step 5 Grip the unhinged end of the cartridge cover near the back of the printer and then pull the cartridge toward you. If this is done correctly, the cover should flip back and hang slightly out from the printer on a hinge.
  6. Step 6 Press your fingertip against the grooved tab on the cartridge that you're changing to unlock the cartridge from the holder. Once it is unlocked, pull the cartridge straight up and out of the printer and set it aside for disposal.
  7. Step 7 Shake the new replacement cartridge in its sealed packaging four to five times using a rapid side-to-side motion and then remove it from the packaging without touching the green circuit boardmag-glass_10x10.gif.
  8. Step 8 Insert the replacement cartridge in the holder and push down on it until you hear the grooved tab click, locking the cartridge in place. Remove and replace any other cartridges as needed.
  9. Step 9 Flip the cartridge cover over the cartridge holder and push down on it to lock it in place. Grasp the sides of the scanner unit and lower it gently into its previous position. Wait for the "Charging" message to disappear from the LCD and then begin printing.

Epson 10000 service required?

Hopefully you already have this solved. I had this happen on mine just this last week. The error itself is that the ink level sensor (not the cartridge, but the head) does not detect the correct level of ink. 00030017 is for Magenta specifically. The first step would to make certain there is actually ink in the Magenta cartridge. Physically remove it from the printer and give it a little shake to be sure there is ink in it. Mine had stuck on a nozzle check error and completely exhausted the cartridge.

Not workin'

I assume you've checked and done all the basic things like a power down and power up reset and checked to make sure all the ink cartdridges are properly installed and seated.

The user manual discusses your error message and suggests you do the following: Open the scanner unit to make sure any tape securing the ink cartridge holder has been removed; close the scanner unit/ press the ON button to turn off the CX6400, then turn it back on . If the error message still appears, contact your epson dealer or Epson tech support. If so,then you may want to get direct support and information from Epson at this website : http://er.epson.com:8001/start?TM=false&CMD=iSearch&CB=1886098358&LG=1&TP=NoviceCase&Q1-1-1886170412=1886170410&FI=1&firstQuestionID=Q1-1-1886170412&firstAnswerID=1886170410&category=allinone&model=cx64__&displaymodel=Epson+Stylus+CX6400&referralmodel=Stylus-CX6400&restart=yes

Ink Cartridge

Some of Epson's cartridges went bad that way. It may be a bad cartridge. Get a new one, pull that one out and see what happens. If it works, call Epson for a refund. They had a class action suit for that type of thing, they lost and paid off. I would think they will help you right away.
