Make sure everything is plugged in correctly, including the line from the printer to the computer, make sure all drivers are updated on the computer, and that the computer identifies the printer when it is turned on, normally a small pop-up notification will alert you that the printer is identified by the computer.
make sure you have ink in the cartridges, and paper in the trays. check in case there is an error message in the printer, and try printing a test page.

most importantly, make sure the printer appears in the printers list on the computer.

The red triangle light with the "!" in it keeps flashing. I've just printed some things off but now it's not printing. Need it to print obviously..

ATTENTION light(triangle): Indicates that the print-cartridge door is open, print cartridge is missing, and other errors.

If ATTENTION and READY light is blinking:

Printer initialization
The printer is initializing.
No action is necessary.

Cleaning mode
A cleaning page is printing.
Wait until the cleaning page has finished and the printer is in the Ready state.
This could take up to two minutes.

If ATTENTION and READY light is on:

Fatal error
Turn off the printer, and then unplug the printer power cord for 30 minutes.
Plug the printer power cord into the power outlet, and then turn the printer on.
If the error persists, replace the printer.

If ATTENTION light is blinking and READY light is off:

  1. Attention: door open, no print cartridge, or media jam
The printer is in an error state that requires operator intervention.
Check the following:
? The print cartridge door must be completely closed.
? The print cartridge is correctly installed.
? There is no media jam.

2. Out of memoryThe printer is out of memory.
The page you are printing might be too complex for the printer's memory capacity.
Try lowering the resolution.

Hello, my printer is able to scan and copy but it doesn't print. Both the cartridge lights are blinking but their is sufficient ink the cartridge. Can you help? I have Cannon MP190. Thanks

If the lights are blinking for the cartridges, then there is not enough ink.
Get new ones or refilled ones and try it again.

Or there may be enough ink, but the electronics on the carts are not working, could be a short, or an open circuit.

The HP Photosmart c3180 prints a color test sheet every time I turn it on even if only to scan a document. How do I prevent it from doing this?

1. Turn on the HP all-in-one.
2. Disconnect the USB cable from the all-in-one.
3. Press the sequence of front panel buttons below to initiate the print cartridge alignment process. The button-press sequence must be completed within ten seconds. It might take several tries to complete the sequence within ten seconds.

a. Press and hold Cancel.
b. While holding Cancel, press On.
c. When the Check Paper and Check Print Cartridge lights begin to blink simultaneously, release both buttons.
d. Press Cancel again.
e. Press Copies.
f. Press Paper Type.
g. Press Color Start Copy.
h. The alignment page will begin printing. If the alignment page does not print, repeat the button-press sequence in this step.

4. Once the alignment page is printed, place the page face down on the scanner glass and press Scan. The alignment is complete when the On light stops blinking. 5. Reconnect the USB cable.

Printer wont print, computer communication error that wont send information to the printer, but the scanner will scan to the computer. Power light on the printer blinks 2 times, pause, blinks once, pause,...

“All lights blinking” is indicative of serious ink cartridge issue. Usually when this happens the printer fails to goes through the motions of the printing process, kind of stands still. If it an All-in-One it still scans though. This could be as a result of eithe of these of scenarios.
i. Ink cartridge has developed incompatibility. Solution is to try an older/another cartridge (doesn’t matter if ink is finished. You must replace cartridge one at a time). If lights stop blinking it confirms that your cartridge has become incompatible or developed incompatibility. Also if your printer is the type that can work with only one cartridge, remove one after the other (closing back the lid/cover) to determine which in the set (black or color) has become incompatible. At the instance the incompatible one is removed and you close the lid, the blinking will stop (for printers that can print with one ink cartridge only). Just replace the incompatible one and start printing again. In most cases the issue is always with one cartridge. But if both are affected, you have to replace both. Because of this problem, always keep used cartridges somewhere safe; they come in handy for this type of troubleshooting.
The electronic panel on the cartridge that makes contact with the cartridge carrier inside the printer is dirty and needs cleaning. Solution is try to clean with a piece of folded tissue paper soaked in a bit of methylated spirit. Also clean the area in the cartridge carrier/holder that makes contact with the cartridge’s electronic panel. Allow to dry well and return the cartridges, close the cover. The blinking should stop if the electronic panel is the issue.

HP Deskjet F4180 colour lights flashing and printer offline

Hi I have exactly the same problem, and can't scan or make copies. I went to HP Online, and tried their advice, which didn't work. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00867129&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3177566&rule=25623〈=enHP's solution made me realise it might be a scanner problem. I made a wild guess and kept the cover above the glass panel open. Turn off your printer, lift the cover up and turn on again. The lights should stop blinking and you should be able to scan/copy/print. I guess the cover prohibits the device to scan properly causing the blinking lights. Hope this helps!

Power Light Continues to blink.

if you are having issues after installing the new cartridges , then perform the following steps.

unplug the power adapter and remove both the cartridges and then power on the printer , look for the power light. if it does not blink then .
install the black cartridge first and then try to print , if it prints fine its ok. then remove the black cartridge and then put the color one in and then try printing or copying .

if it doesnot print with any either black/ color then you have to replace that particular caratridge..

lemme know once u r done....

The printer apear to be dead!

Buttons and lights on the printer Two buttons and three lights are located on the front of an HP Deskjet printer.
  • The lights tell when the printer is working or when it needs attention.
  • The buttons help control the printer.
Buttons and lights Purpose c00123886.jpg POWER button and light Push the POWER button to turn the printer off and on. When lit, the light shows that the printer is turned on. c00123889.jpg RESUME button and light The light blinks when there is a problem with paper. When the problem is corrected, press the button. c00123892.jpg Print cartridge light The light blinks when there is a problem with a print cartridge. When the problem is corrected and the top cover is closed, the light will stop blinking. Troubleshooting blinking printer lights Blinking lights Reason c00123895.jpg

All lights are off. The printer is off (asleep).

Press the POWER buttonc00123886.jpg to turn the printer on.

The printer should turn on automatically when a print job is sent to it. c00123898.jpg

The POWER (top) light is on. The printer is idle.

The printer is ready to print a document. c00123900.jpg

The POWER (top) light is blinking. The printer is busy printing.

Allow enough time to print. When a document has many fonts or graphics or uses complex color such as a color photo, it takes longer to begin printing. c00123902.jpg

The PRINT CARTRIDGE (bottom) light is blinking. Possible causes:

  • The front cover is open. Make sure the front cover is completely closed.
  • The print cartridge is missing. Make sure the print cartridge has been installed correctly.
  • The print cartridge is broken or incompatible. Lift the front cover, and wait for the print-cartridge cradle to slide out. Check the part numbers on the print cartridge:

Black: 51645A

Color: C1823D,

If the print cartridges are compatible and correctly installed, they may be defective. Try replacing the print cartridges.

If none of the above suggestions fix the problem, and, if the error message still occurs, it may be a hardware failure. Call the HP Customer Support Center.
