Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

Model KCMS1555R I tried turning off power and thought it might reset the unit but that did not help.

My problem is not power coming on or going off. They work fine. The problem is that when ever I open the door the turn table keeps revolving, This is true even when I am not cooking anything. When I am cooking something and the door is closed it revolves as it should but when it goes off and I open it to take the food out it starts revolving again. It always stopped revolving when ever I opened the door cooking or not cooking. If the door is closed and I am not cooking it does not revolve.

When the door is open the turntable continues to revolve.

Hi unicorn532,

If your oven wont start, it might cause by recent changes on the setting. The easiest way to resolve this problem is by resetting the machine.

1. Press the "Off" or "clear" button to cancel anything on the display. This process is a soft reset and will remove any program you have started.

2. For the hard reset, please disconnect the microwave from the power source. If the microwave is a built in, just turn off the circuit breaker. Else, unplug the machine from the power wall outlet. Wait for at least 5 minutes.

3. Turn on the circuit breaker or you can plug the microwave into the power outlet.

4. Now, reset the clock of the microwave, usually there is a button you press on setting the clock. Use the number pad to put the correct time and press the clock button again to set the time.

5. Test the system by heating some water.

--> if after doing these steps and you will be encountering the same issue, kindly provide the model, type and brand name of your machine.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi unicorn532,

Please be advised that this is a dangerous situation, you mentioned that microwave is running while door is open, it means that the "safety interlock switches" are not working properly. It should work the way they were designed to. For safety reasons, I highly recommend to have it be checked immediately by a qualified technician or a repairman . Please unplug the machine and don't use it until it has been thoroughly checked.

    Hope it helps.

    Thank you for using FixYa.

This is an extremely dangerous situation, if the microwave oven is running with the door open it means the safety interlock switches are not working the way they were designed to, and needs to be checked out for safety reasons. I recommend unplugging the device and not use it until it has been checked by a qualified technician.

Our sylvania microwave model sr11092b received a power surge that blew the internal fuse and would not run (it also fried the power converter in my rv)\r\nReplaced power converter, replaced internal fuse...

I had the EXACT same symptoms with my Sylvania SR1109sb after a power surge.
After some digging around I thought what the heck let me try holding down the Reset button and do a power off/on cycle and what do you know it worked !!!
Just pressing the Reset did nothing until the cycle off and on.

Hotpoint RVM 225 BL 002 power reset. Internal breaker?

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

I would suspect the fuse or magnetron thermostat.

The child lock has been activated, either by accident or due to a glitch in the power line, surge, etc.

The owner's manual should cover this. Otherwise, unplug the oven for about a minute, reset the clock and try again.

If you still need help, to allow us to help you effectively (at no charge), please post a NEW problem to FixYa, and please include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on the unit as wqell as repeating your symptoms in detail.

Microwave oven stuck on high power. Setting say 80% power does not work as it did before. Model is smh7178ste purchased 11/1/2007

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

Let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

There may instead be a stuck relay on the control board, which we repair for customers nationwide with our guaranteed $39.95 service.

RV microwave convection oven model R7A85

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

If that doesn't do it, then your keypad may be bad. If so, the unit would have to be scrapped since the keypad is no longer available.

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

If that doesn't work, then I'd say you have a shorted relay on the control board or relay board.

Kenmore microwave sn 911-4942990

Sounds like a bad connection in the power line or maybe the magnetron is emitting interference that resets the control circuit board.

Please post the complete model number so we can give you more targeted help.

Plus if you could be a little more specific as to what you do and how it fails, that would of course help, too.

Once we have enough information, we can propose a solution, and then you can give us a thoughtful rating.

We're always happy to help! Thanks!!
