Any piece of gear with electronics it can have an early failure. It's possible that the fuse for the high voltage circuit has failed or even the magnetron or the diode that produces the DC for it has gone south. I have the ugly feeling that these don't have a year's warranty anymore but it would be worth checking. I'm growing tired of Chinese quality.

Just stop working less than A YEAR OLD.

Seems to be a common problem for the looks of it. Mine was only a month old. Defect maybe?

No Heat.

Hi dadedulitl,

When you say "putting out no heat", I take that to mean it's not heating the food up. When a microwave suddenly stops heating food, but still appears to run, it's usually a defective/dead magnetron. Prices for replacement/repair will vary, you will need to find out what that service costs in your locality before having enough information to decide on repair or replacement.

When my first microwave lost it's magnetron (~20 yrs ago), it was 5 years old at the time, and the cost of buying a new oven was only a little more than the repair - but I had the repair done anyhow. Since then, we've replaced the entire oven instead (twice). Newer one's may have more power/less energy wastage, etc.

If it's ~ 3 years old, do you have an extended warranty?
If so, you might be able to use that (check the terms of the EW). Most standard warranties are for 1-2 years max, so unless you bought the EW, you're probably back to deciding between repair and replacement.

If I can be of further assistance, or if you have questions about any of my response(s), please let me know before rating me.

If this solves the issue, please rate it accordingly. My goal is to earn a "FixYa" rating from everyone I help.

Thanks for using Fixya.com,

Jon

Kenmore built-in microwave 63662/... power just stopped

You can probably find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number here at the Sears parts site.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

The part will probably cost less than $25 if you get it yourself.

"The repairman seemed puzzled". LOL! Bet you couldn't wait to hand him your money!!

Kenmore Elite taking long time to heat items

This is most likely a failing magnetron.

If it's less than 5 years old, Sears/Kenmore should cover the part, but you would still have to pay for a service call.

If you or someone you know decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

If you someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.

Loud and not heating

If it's less than a year old, it's still under warranty. If it's just over a year old, GE will still cover parts, but you'd have to pay for labor.

Contact them at http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/contact/

The most likely causes are a shorted high-voltage diode or a bad magnetron.

Microwave suddenly stopped working

Code F3 indicates an open / defective thermistor / temperature sensor. The first suspects when a microwave is not heating would be the door switches, bad connections on the magnetron terminal or bad connections on the control board. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Microwave runs constantly

If it's less than a year old, it's under warranty and you should call the nearest Sears store for free repairs. Quite often this is due to a bad door switch. Opening the door while cooking (without first hitting the STOP pad) is the primary cause of door switch failure. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://www3.sears.com (the 3 is correct)
