Daniel, I followed those directions before I contacted you.The problem I' ve run into is the drum won't come loose when I lift up. There are no screws in the back for a hold - down bracket. I did remove 4 screws that held a cover [with wires attached] that the drum goes into, big mistake.I hope you can figure this out.I can' t work on this anymore until Tuesday.

    Thanks, Tony

Tip: If the drum is too heavy for yall to raise up just remove the 3 screws that hold the rear bearing to the drum and get the drum out first. out. Re-attach the ball to the drum before re-installing it.

Please follow these instructions for drum removal:

1. Disconnect the power source to your dryer before you begin to remove the drum. Unplug the unit from the wall outlet, remove the appropriate fuse from the fuse box, or flip the appropriate breaker in the circuit breaker panel.

2. There should be a removable kick plate found at the bottom of the dryer. Remove this kick plate by removing the two screws found at the bottom. Let the kick plate drop down just a little to disengage the two pins found on its top.

3. If your dryer has an enameled top, you can raise it by releasing the two spring catches found under it. Use a putty knife (or some other thin and flat object) to push in on and disengage each catch.

4. Remove the two screws (some models will have four) that secure the bottom of the front panel. As you remove the front panel, disconnect the door switch and any other wiring, taking careful note of which wires are to be reconnected where.

5. If your dryer has a galvanized top, remove the screws from the front panel, and then remove the front panel itself. As you remove the front panel, disconnect the door switch and any other wiring, taking careful note of which wires are to be reconnected where.

6. Keep in mind that as you remove the dryer's front cabinet panel, you are also removing the drum's only front support. Your drum will be free-floating for a bit.

7. With the front panel removed and set to the side, lift up on the back end of the drum. There will be a ball on the back of the drum that fits down into a socket. You are going to remove this ball from its socket. On some models, there is a bracket holding the ball down in its socket. For these models, you will have to remove this bracket before you can remove the drum. The bracket can be accessed and removed from the rear of the dryer.

8. To replace your drum, simply reverse the removal process. Reassemble the unit and restore power to your dryer.

Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

The drum on my frigidaire Gallery dryer is tipped down , so there is a gap at the bottom and clothes get stuck in it. Can this be adjusted?

Suspect one or more failures of the drum front support bearings. Remove the cabinet top by removing several screws at the rear of the top, then pushing it to the rear somewhat which should allow the top front to lift up to allow removal of the front cabinet panel by taking out several screws on each side, then lifting the panel up to release it from the bottom. Once the panel is off, the support bearings should be mounted around the drum opening in the panel. Hope this helps!

The dryer drum support is worn and must be replaced.Unplug the dryer. Open the top lid and fold it back. Remove the front panel, dryer belt and drum. To remove the drum pull UP on the rear of the drum. There is a ball and cup support on the rear of the drum and rear cabinet. They are worn down.

How do I remove the drum to Frigidaire GLER642AS3?

Unplug the dryer.
Use a putty knife to push back the top lid catches about 2 inches in from the right and left sides, where the top meets the cabinet front.
Raise the lid to the back of the machine.
Disconnect the wires to the door switch.
Remove 2 screws on the inside top corners of the front panel on the right and left sides.
Reach in under the drum and remove the drive belt from the motor and pulley.
Grasp the rear center of the drum and pull up. It may take a little force.
Remove the drum out the front of the cabinet.

Need to put a belt on frigidaire dryer model fde546res2

ok. this is a HARD job.
First you need to release the top from the cabinet.look where the top closes and you will see 2 release tabs that you must press in with a flat blade. lift open top and you will see 2 screws that hold the front on, remove them and move the front to the side( careful not to pull on the wires that go to the door switch,if you remove them, mark what terminal they go on)
slide the belt grove side down onto the drum. now go to the back and remove the little plate so you can see into the rear where the motor is.loop the belt around the motor pulley and theypull the idler arm & pulley away from the side and loop the blet over it( this will cause back tension and hold the belt in place) once you do this, move to the front and reassemble the unit. I hope this helps.
Good Luck!!

It is very much easier to replace the belt from the front, than the back, the cabinet disassembles from the front, and the mechanism remians attached to the rear plate and cabinet floor.
  • pull lint filter out
  • remove 2 screws from under lint filter
  • with putty knife or other blunt blade, release clips at front corners of cabinet top
  • tilt up cabinet top
  • remove 1screw 1/3 way down each side of front of cabinet.
  • lift off cabinet front
  • drum, motor, tensioner, are all exposed

  • lift drum out forward
  • check rollers, drum felts, nylon glide bearings for wear
(worn bearing surfaces are the most common cause of belt breakage and you dont want to do it again next month)
  • reinstall tensioner in slots in cabinet floor, reinstall tensioner spring between tensioner and cabinet floor
(Once the cabinet is open the tensioner mounts are easily visible)
  • loop belt around drum at the wear marks of the prior belt
  • reinstall drum on unworn bearing rollers etc
  • loop belt around motor pulley
  • pull tensioner hard against spring to end of travel
  • loop belt around tensioner
  • relax tensioner
  • spin drum by hand to ensure belt isnt going to jump off
reinstall cabinet in reverse order
~15 MINUTES, but I do 3-4 per day

How to replace drum belt.

Opening the cabinet and removing the drum of GE dryer models
Disconnect the power source to your dryer before you begin to remove the drum. Either unplug the unit from the wall outlet, remove the appropriate fuse from the fuse box, or flip the appropriate breaker in the circuit breaker panel.

Pull your dryer out from the wall. Behind it, on the bottom, you will find a lower panel that will give you access to the unit's belt tensioner (also known as an idler pulley arm). Remove the screws holding this panel in place, and then remove the panel itself. Reach inside and release the belt tension by removing the belt from the motor pinion.

Older GE dryer models have a small drum bearing inspection plate in the center of the back of the dryer. This drum bearing inspection plate provides access to the dryer's circlip (also known as an e-ring). This clip holds the rear drum shaft in place. Newer models do not have this circlip or the drum bearing inspection plate.

If yours is an older GE model with an inspection plate, remove the plate now. It will be held in place with a single screw. With the plate removed, you will be able to see the drum support shaft and the e-ring (circlip) holding the shaft in place. Use a small screwdriver to remove the e-ring. You may also want to use a magnet to keep the circlip from falling into the dryer. You will also find several metal and nylon shims between the bearing and the e-ring, inside the bearing, and between the bearing and the drum. Take careful note of how they come off so that you will be able to put them back on again in the right order.

Now remove the front panel of the dryer. There are a couple of different ways this is accomplished. Whichever method you use is dependent upon your model. Some older models have two spring catch clips under the cabinet top, one on the left side, and one on the right side of the front. Use a putty knife, or some other flat and thin object to wedge in under the cabinet top. Release both spring catches and lift the cabinet top off the dryer. In some newer models, there will be screws joining the cabinet front panel to the cabinet top. You will have to open the door in order to find these screws. Once they are found, remove them and then slide the cabinet top forward and lift it off the unit.

Next, there are two screws located in the bottom of the front panel, one in each corner. Loosen these, but do not remove them just yet. Locate and remove the two screws at the top inside of the dryer's front panel. Again, there is one screw in each corner. Proceed to remove the other two screws you have just loosened. Disconnect the door switch wires and then lift the front panel off your dryer. With the front panel removed, lift the drum and slide it out of the dryer.

NOTE: In some models, you will have to remove the dryer drum glides before you can remove the drum. Also, now that the interior of your dryer is completely exposed, it might be a good time to vacuum out all of the dust and lint that has built up in there.
