Question about Ovens

Open Question

The oven light in my Westinghouse PXL688 - Fan Forced wall oven is not working - presumably blown. Having trouble removing the glass light cover to get to the globe. Don't want to force it - is it just a screw or bayonet fitting that should be removed anti-clockwise? Any tips to ease the force required would be appreciated. Thanks for your help. Bruce Anderson

SOURCE: kenmore oven: glass dome for interior light removal

Hopefully someone answered your question by now. If not, the glass bulb cover sticks sometimes, but it does turn counterclockwise. Be firm with it, let it know who's boss. Once you've removed it, you can replace the 40 watt appliance bulb. (The manual suggests you unplug the range or disconnect power for your safety). Good luck.

SOURCE: Replacement of fan oven element on Nef U1721

Hi Steve...yes, these are a pain! Remove the centre fan nut (which is anti-threaded) then lever off the small locating washer underneath. If you are lucky, you will be able to now pull the fan blade off of the motor shaft. However, very often they won't budge!. If you try to knock it off, it is so easy to damage the fan motor (about £80!!). It is possible to leave the top bracket screwed to the oven and unclamp the element from it. I have come across three different typed of clamps so far. One is very easy to do. You can then remove the clamp from the new element and once the element is in place, use the old clamp. It's a fiddle but quite do-able. I have also come across these where the top clamp has been previously removed altogether by engineers on previous repairs! Hope this all helps a little....

SOURCE: CHANGE THE LIGHT IN MIELE OVEN

Had the same problem. Ended up removing interior oven panels (sides first then top on model H310B). This is easier than you might think. Could then get a good grip on the light's glass cover and it unscrewed easily.

SOURCE: unable to remove the glass cover to change the light bulb in oven

I went out and bought a 4 inch strap wrench from LOWE's. I had never heard of one before. After figuring out from the diagram how to use it, I wrapped it around the glass bulb cover and did a counterclockwise twist and off it came. P.S. I'm a girl so I feel pretty good about that project

The bake element has gone bad. They can visually look fine but still be bad. To check and replace that element you will unfortunately need to kill the power and remove it from the wall. Remove the back cover. Check for a low resistance (around 16 ohms) across the bake element. If the resistance is high the element is bad. Google the make and model for a replacement element.

My walloven it does not heat at all only the fan and the light work

Their is a good chance your fan oven element has blown and needs replacing.
isolate the cooker, remove the cover inside at the rear of the oven cavity held on by 4 screws normally, you may have to remove the oven lamp glass as well (depends where its sited) then you can see the round element. Just use your eyes with a torch and check to see any furred or broken bits on the floor of the cavity or for any anomalies. See image below,as you can see where it has blown at the bottom of the picture. If this is the case, you can order a new element online with the make and model number of your cooker. You must have a little amount of engineering knowledge to perform this. Good luck! 25250147-hxs5rfaijc4c2ocig4ruktbd-5-0.jpg

How to change light in oven westinghouse florentine

Turn off the power to the oven. Grip the glass light cover and turn anti-clockwise. I think the lamp then unscrews.
Replace lamp, turn on power and check if lamp lights up, replace cover twist clockwise to fasten.

My fan forced setting is not working, it is blowing cool air only, all other settings are working fine

There is an element surrounding the fan that may have blown. Removed the fan cover and inspect the element for damage, sometimes you cannot see any damage, but it may still be faulty. Oven needs to be removed from the wall to inspect the wiring to the elememt or replace it. Ensurre th ewall switch is off before starting any work on any oven.

Most of these ovens have two fans. A fan forced fan in the oven and a cavity extractor fan inside the cavity of the unit between the outer skin and the oven wall. The cavity fan blows hot cavity air out the front of the unit so it remains cool. If the orange indicator light is coming on this would normally be the oven element thermostat. Leave it on and see if it gets hot. If the light goes off when you select the function switch it means you are turning it off the oven function. Your interior oven light may be blown.
Hope this helps.

Remove the fuze or switch off the oven circuit breaker in the electrical meter box to make sure power is off.
Remove protective glass cover. It usually unscrews. Even tap with a piece of wood. Unscrew the globe. If globe has broken it still needs to be unscrewed.

Not heating in fan forced mode

Possibly your fan element has blown. Try and take the cover off that coves the fan inside the oven itself and use a torch to look at the element to see if it looks out of shape etc.

First thing, remove the plug from the wall power for at least 10 minutes, maybe even thirty minutes and allow it to reset........ if that does not work write me at wbwill@sbcglobal.net and give more model info so I can investigate for you or check out a volunteer site, allexperts.com and you will find me there also.
