Hey all, I doubt this will help most people, but I thought I'd document how I got my player's "always-on green LED" to finally start working again.

NOTE: when you plug it into the computer you will need to be sure that the green LED is not on all the time. If it is on, use something to hit the small reset button located on the top. Now you can plug it in (i.e. don't turn it back on, just plug it in)

I was about to throw away my zen player, and then I tried one (albeit desperate) more idea. I loaded my windows xp virtual machine on my imac (i.e. I used Windows XP) and used the "Disk Management" tool inside "Computer Management". Now, be careful that you don't format your computer's HDD, but try formatting the small active partition on the Zen. It should autodetect it as FAT, but just check it to be sure. NOTE: I also didn't put a name in the "Volume Name" field. After that I was able to copy a folder of music to the newly-formatted partition on the Zen and disconnect. When I held the power button, the green light came on, and the BLINKED! I am now listening to the music and am very pleased to have my 1GB player back!

SOURCE: Creative Zen Stone 1GB

you may need to update (and format) the firmware of your stone, it is downloadable from creative but unfortunately their support site is under repair.

http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=214&product=16424

once they're back on, open the site, click support then downloads, get the firmware upgrade utility (inside it is the firmware) the just run it on your PC with the Stone connected to it.

good luck.

My creative zen stone plus cant switch on,except use a usb cable to connect it... and the word on the screen not clear anymore....why its happen??and how to solve it??

Hi, from the way you said your problem, might not be easy for me to just give you a direct answer to the problem. Because i don't know what happened to it before it started acting the way it those.

So what you can do for me is to write out another comment and really describe exactly what happened to it that made it the way it is now.

But before you do that let me give you some Tips to troubleshoot it first and see if it will solve the problem.

How to Troubleshoot With a Zen Stone MP3 Player

Creative Zen Stone MP3 players work without problems under most conditions, but may occasionally malfunction during normal operation. Malfunctions are often caused by errors in the player software but are occasionally caused by other issues. If your Creative Zen Stone MP3 player is not playing back music or responding to button presses, troubleshoot your device. Most problems are common and do not require service.

Instructions

Plug the small end of the USB cable into the USB jack on the Zen Stone MP3 player. If the rechargeable battery is drained, the MP3 player will not work. Wait until the indicator light stops blinking before removing it from your computer.

Connect the MP3 player to your computer and open the Creative Media Lite software on your computer. Check for updates to the player's firmware by pressing the "Check for Updates" button in the software. Follow the onscreen instructions to update the firmware if one is available. Firmware updates correct problems with the software and may resolve the problem with your device.

Reset the Zen Stone MP3 player to clear any errors that may have developed in the device's software. To reset the device, stick the end of a straightened paper clip into the hole marked "Reset." The device will restart.

Reformat the player as a last resort for fixing your Zen Stone MP3 player. To reformat the player, connect it to your computer and open "My Computer." Your player is located in the "Devices with Removable Storage" section. Right click on your MP3 player, select "Format," and confirm the selection.

Tips & Warnings

If you are still unable to operate your Creative Zen Stone MP3 player, visit the Creative support website.

Reformatting your Zen Stone MP3 player will delete all of the information on your device. Only reformat your player as a last resort.

Thanks for using fixya..

Creative zen stone 1gb mp3 player will not charge anymore.i plug it in, and sometimes comes up a green light. but sill never charges. advice any1?

  • Try resetting the device it’s usually a small pinhole on the back or side of the device try holding that in for about 10 seconds
  • Try reflashing the firmware for your device you can find the latest firmware and flashing utilities from the manufacturer’s website. Make sure that you back your music up first because when you do this you are setting it back to factory settings.

My zen stone stays on a solid green light

Just tried this on a zen stone with speaker and worked. Connect your zen stone to your computer. When the green light is on, use a paper clip and press and hold the reset button (small hole on the headphone jack side). The green light should turn off. Wait a bit and it should start blinking to indicate it is now charging. Note: This reset only worked when I had it connected to the computer.

Hope it works for you too.

Mine did this as well. Then I just plugged it back into the PC, and waited a couple minutes. Unplugged it and it worked again. It was like it was not done saving or moving the data onto the Zen stone. Try this!!
