External antennas are available at the store, however, I recomend you bring your router to make sure you find one that will attach correctly. Changing chanels will probably not work unless there is another wireless device working on the same chanel causing interference. An antenna is very inexpensive and will work every time!

I have bought linksys wag200g **** its not working properly when i use wifi on my mobile.... and device disconnected after every 1 or 2 minutes.. i have ADSL connection......

There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router. 1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up. 2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router. 3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply). 4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

I have Cable for internet and have a cable modem that is brand new provided by the isp. I then have it connected to my Linksys router model wrt54g. I will have internet for a while then it just well will...

try running without the router, hook directly to the modem. If the problem is still there it could be a weak signal from the cable company. Tell them what its doing. They should come out and check the signal strength on the line. My friend had this problem until they put an amplifier on his line.

How can i adjust the signal strength

There are several things you can do to improve your signal strength.

1) Locate your router away from any devices that may cause interference such as microwaves, cordless phones, walls and metal objects (e.g. file cabinets)
2) Locate your router as high as possible in the room
3) Change the channel your router is using
4) Replace the antenna with a more powerful antenna
5) Increase the transmitter power output in the router settings

Top Causes of Intermittent Wireless Connection to a Linksys Router

There are three key reasons that may be cited why the wireless connection between your Linksys router and your computer is intermittent or is experiencing timeouts.
i. You have a low signal quality received from your wireless router.
ii. You are experiencing signal interference from other wireless devices.
iii. Your router's firmware needs to be upgraded.
You have a low signal quality received from your Linksys wireless router.
The location of your wireless router with respect to your computer greatly influences your connection to the wireless network. For a better signal quality, it is ideal that the wireless router is placed in a central spot of your house or on a location free from any obstruction blocking its range.
To determine the signal quality received from your wireless router, you must connect to the wireless network first.
NOTE: For instructions on how to connect wirelessly to your Linksys router, click here. If you're using a Mac computer, click here.
Once connected, check the signal strength received by your wireless adapter or Airport for Mac users. The recommended signal strength should be closest to full bars to have the best connection possible.
You are experiencing signal interference from other wireless devices.
The frequency used by your router's wireless network may be 2.4 GHz, 5GHz or both. Some devices may also be using the same frequency and this causes the interference to the wireless network of your Linksys router. The most common examples are cordless phones, microwave ovens and baby monitors. Another possibility of frequency interference is that there may be other wireless networks in the area. Your frequencies may be conflicting with each other.
To solve this, turn off the device that is possibly causing the interference or relocate your router away from it. Another solution is to change the current wireless network channel which is set in your router's settings. For instructions on how to do this, click here.
Your router's firmware needs to be upgraded.
If you are having unstable connection and have confirmed that the previous causes are irrelevant, then you may have to upgrade your Linksys router's firmware. For instructions on how to do this, click here.

Encountering Intermittent Wireless Connections Using a Router

Before following the steps in this article, check if your wireless computers have stable connection when connected to other wireless networks (hotspots). This article assumes that all wireless computers are experiencing intermittent wireless connection with the Linksys router.
Frequent wireless disconnection can be caused by different factors such as:
  1. Wireless interference within the network.
  2. Wireless settings of the Linksys router are still set to default.
  3. Firmware is corrupted.
Reducing Wireless Interference
If you are experiencing frequent disconnection from the wireless network, it helps if you check the following factors, all of which can greatly affect your wireless signals:
  • 2.4 GHz interference: Your router may be operating on the same frequency as your cordless telephone system (or even your neighbors'), or other nearby equipment. Try to change your router's channel to 1 or 11 (the default channel is 6) and restart the wireless computers.

Physical obstructions: Your router or wireless computers may be losing connectivity because of physical obstacles such as walls and floors. Try to move the equipment to different locations to find a better link.

  • Placement of the router: Linksys suggests that you place your router as high off the ground as possible. When placing the router in a high location, leave a distance of two feet between the router antenna tips, ceiling, and wall. If your signal passes through multiple floors, place the router on the upper-most floor, and high up in the room.

  • Surroundings: Keep the router away from large metal objects, bodies of water (fish tanks, bathrooms), and any electrical equipment including television sets, microwaves, radios, etc.
  • Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the Linksys router may cause conflict with other Linksys routers within your network range. We suggest changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.
1)To change the router's SSID or the wireless network's name, click here.
2)To change the router's channel, click here.
3)To enable the wireless security on the router, click here.
NOTE: If the wireless connection remains unstable after performing the steps above, it could mean that your firmware is corrupted. For instructions to reload or upgrade firmware, click here.

I have a cisco WRT160 router and have lost wireless to laptop

Change all the wireless settings of the router.
Change the SSID ( network name ). change the SSID something new that you never tried before. change the security to WPA personal.
change the channel to 6.
make sure the wireless MAC filter is disabled.
under advanced wireless settings change the beacon interval to 75.

Now on your computer try to connect to the new network name.

see if that works.
If that doesn't work then try to upgrade the firmware./

Linksys WRT54GX4 loses internet connection

Not a problem, you have to consider maybe other devices and or networks competing/interferring with your network. If you know how to enter the Linksys router menu I would 1. change the frequency the router operates on 2. change the channel the router will use 3. change the default password to something else besides the default.

All of the settings for your router out of the box are at default, wonder how many other people are running the same thing in your neighborhood? I always change from the default, you may also be receiving interference from devices using the same freq/channel as your router. Changing these will eliminate those possibilities.

Don't forget to encrypt your network, that is most important.

Linksys router causing tv interference

Apparently, your router is working at a frequency too close to your TV's incoming signal. You can try changing the channel (frequency) that your wireless operates on. Click this link for Linksys' troubleshooting wizard, which will show you how to do this.
If this doesn't help, you might return your router for a different model (I only use belkin myself).
