Canon A570IS - the flash does not fire in any mode

The flash does not fire in any mode of operation whenever the flash indicator blinks. So, image is not captured if flash is required.

But its working okay without use of the flash. I have done reset to defaults and tried too. it did not help.

Any clues how to set this right? or do a hardware reset or anything to make the flash fire?

Thanks
Ilango

Mine failed, just like yours, and not too long after purchasing it. Luckily, it is still under warranty and I just mailed it in this morning. I'm terribly disappointed in Canon.

I have the same problem. Looks like there is some problem with charging up the flash in this Model. What I have notices is when you experiencing this problem, Just turn off the display and start taking the picture using view finder. Later even if you turn on the display, camera is working normally.

I sent my camera to Canon service center and they have fixed the problem. Here is the repair note for this problem from canon.

"We have examined the product according to your request and it was found that the PCB assembly was not properly connected the strobe could not operate properly. The PCB assembly was reworked. Other inspection and cleaning and parts replacement were carried out ".

I have tested my camera and it is working correctly. One more information is that my camera more than one year old and warrantee expired on Dec 14 2008. I filed this claim Canon online on Jan 25th 2009 and it came out initial estimation as $0 and they did not charge me a penny. Hope this information will help you.

I am having this exact same problem. I've also noticed the camera body becomes very warm near the back of the flash.

Canon S3 IS - Images are darker or underexposed even in normal ambient light. Started happening just recently

If you are shooting using AUTO mode, maybe the settings were changed to a manual modes. If so, check for settings. Flash fires automatically only in AUTO. On manual modes you must force the flash to fire.

Camera will not take photo

I don't know which shooting mode you are in, but the red shaking camera icon indicates that based on the settings that your camera is in, you may experience camera shake (which is your image stabilizer or "is" in action). The yellow blinking indicator light means that your camera is having a hard time achieving proper exposure and that the shutter speed with be slowed down to reach a proper exposure. Extending the shutter speed means that you are at risk for camera shake (i.e. blurry image).
Solutions for this are:
  • increase ISO
  • use a tripod
  • use flash
Hope this helps!

White pictures

Maybe you are shooting in the manual mode (shown as "M" on the dial) with an incorrect exposure setting. Make sure that the dial is in "Auto" mode to check if it will shoot correctly then. If you are still getting the white picture on "Auto", then it may be a defective image sensor in the camera - clearly a warranty claim.

CANON POWERSHOT A-85 FLASH PROBLEM

Watch the flash,(this might hurt your eyes a bit. If you are getting dark pictures the flash may not actually be firing without you noticing it. It is also possible that the output of the flash is not as high as it should be. This is not very likely though. Either way, since you have tried all posible settings, you are going to have to take it to a shop.
