Change the needle first, failing that you may need to retime the machine

Bobbin case jammed when sewing vinyl. Thot thread locked in bobbin case but it wasn't. Could it be the timing is now out of sync? Is it something I can fix? Quantum CXL

Are you able to remove the bobbin case from the machine? Remove the needle and then work at gently removing any knots of thread in the bobbin area until you are able to remove the bobbin case.

Once the machine is cleaned of all the excess thread, lint, etc., install a BRAND NEW NEEDLE, reinstall the bobbin, and rethread the top thread. Then retest your machine on regular woven fabric. If it stitches, then you are probably okay. If it will not pick up the bobbin thread, then the machine is probably knocked out of time.

Search for: sewing machine timing

or take it for service.

FWIW, vinyl presents issues when sewing. A roller or teflon foot may help. Also, placing tissue paper between the presser foot and vinyl could be beneficial. Look at using a top-stitch needle to prevent the thread from hanging up on the vinyl. Search for web sites or videos on how to sew vinyl.

Well thank you for your help finally got my machines to sew and not just straight stitch the other zig zag and so on. Got the bobbin case out and cleaned it 20years or more of fluff.

I don't believe you have a timing issue. Timing generally affects the ability of the top thread to pick up the bobbin thread--ie skipped stitches or no stitches at all. It sounds like you have more of a bird nesting or thread nesting problem.

Try this:
Remove the top thread from the machine.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. (This allows the thread to seat fully in the tension disk.)
Be sure to install a brand new needle at least every 8 hrs of sewing time.
Set the top tension at the midway point to start and then tweak it.

I have a euro pro shark sewing machine. I just changed the thread for another project and cannot get the needle to pick up the bobbin thread. Any ideas?

Try installing a brand new needle. Bent/damaged needles will sometimes not pick up the bobbin thread.

Make sure the machine is threaded correctly. Check the bobbin--ie, it is turning the correct direction in the bobbin case and is threaded properly through the bobbin tension.

You might also try pulling the bobbin thread up to the top before beginning to stitch.

Machine wont sew. Misses stitches

check for problems in the bobbin winding, ( in the wrong way so that the thread is not coming out correctly)
top thread tension too tight or too loose
vary the thread tension to see when it improves on a waste test sew

I have a XL2600I and the top thread is only picking up the bottom thread about every inch. What can I do or replace?

try a new needle--use the right needle for the fabric being sewed

rethread the machine, using every thread guide

take the bobbin out of the bobbin case and reinsert it, making it sure it counter clock wise in the bobbin case

also could be a timing problem

Machine won't stitch

If by "won't stitch" you mean that the top thread will not pick up the bottom thread, make sure you have the needle threaded properly. If the machine is a top loading bobbin, the thread goes in the needle from front to back. Same if it's a side loading bobbin (bobbin faces you as you sew). If it's a front loading bobbin (bobbin faces left of machine), the thread goes in the needle from left to right.
