I'm going to give two waysnto check this:
1 Click on the speaker symbol in your task bar at lower right of your screen. Is there red X on it? Right click on the speaker and click on playback devices. A window will come up and should have your device in it with a green check mark on keft and sound bars on left. Right click on your device and you should see "disable". If you see "enable" click on that, and exit. Right click on the item again and click on "open sound mixer" and adjust your volume. If there is nothing in box try right clicking on the empty window and click "show disconnected device" If your device shows up click on it and go through steps above.
2 Click "start" find "control panel" and click on to open. In your list(icons), find "device manager". Right click on that, open, then click continue. Click on the box with + next to "sound video and game controllers". You should see your device in the drop down. Right click on it and you should see "disable". If you see "enable" click on that and exit. Right click on it again and click on the "properties tab". You should see a window taht says "this device working properly". Now go back to your speaker in the taskbar. Right click on it and click on "open sound mixer" and adjust your volume.

Ensure you are plugging into the right plug. there are probably at least 3 that look similar. the right on is usually the "GREEN" plug.

How to fix sound on my lg 42

Some simple things you may already have tried but I will list:

Unplug set for a while and then plug back and see if sound--when unplugged the set may reset.

In main menu make sure speakers are not switched off.

I doubt it is mute but if also using some type of box check that its volume is not all the way down.

If internal speakers put your ear right to them---hear low sound or a buzz or hum?

If using external speakers of any kind look at the hookup and switch to make sure internal/external is correctly selected

If NONE of these help you have an audio problem and should first contact LG (yes it takes time on the phone) to inquire if some common issue or a possible software upgrade is available for this.

Last: Some failure has occurred either in the audio circuit or something that feeds it.

I have no indication of sound when I test my microphone. Speakers and video are OK.

I have the same webcam.
It happens once in a while to me, also. What I did was unplugged it and put the USB cord into a different port. It's happened a couple times, mostly it happened when something got to loud it automatically set itself to a different sound pick up level for louder noises, and I'm thinking unplugging it and putting it to another USB port reset the camera. If unplugging it and putting it back in doesn't work, I'd try to un install the disc, and re install it.

My computer speakers just went silent in the middle of a song

Do the speakers have power? Check the fuse.

Where are you plugging your headphones?
Where are the speakers connected? Is it the same jack as the headphones?

Have you tried plugging the speakers into the headphone jack vs the soundcard?

Noise like a crrrrr... eaven when the volume is at the lowest point

This is feed back from a component in the computer or one of the external devices. Try progressively unplugging all peripherals one by one. Came back if nothing reveals it self
