There are two ways you can go about this. One is that you loosen the nut until it is flush with the crankshaft (at the top) and then use an air hammer and a pry bar to get it to lift up off of the tapered edge. Two, You can do the same thing but using a hammer instead of a air hammer.

My craftsman 190cc 625 series lawn mower stopped and a friend said that there is a pin that drops when the mower blade gets caught and stops, I'm really in need of help on how to get to the pin if possible...

Wow it's a lot of work it's called the fly wheel key that is sheard. In every case like this you have to make sure you remove the spark plug or uncap the spark plug. Remove the pull cord assembly and then use a pipe or wooden board to keep the blade from moving underneath the mower. VERY VERY IMPORTANT TO USE A CLAMP TO HOLD DOWN THE CLUTCH BRAKE AND DO NOT REMOVE IT TILL YOUR FINISHED OR YOU'LL BRAKE OFF THE BRAKE FOOT ON THE LEVER. Use a breaker bar to remove the bolt holding the fly wheel down. Now here is the hard part. The fly wheel is made of aluminum and can brake easily as well as the fly wheels blades. If it cracks or the fly wheel blade is cracked or broken it's junk. If you don't have a Briggs and Straton puller you can use a lug wrench and pry the fly wheel up. You must first place the nut back on the 1 inch bolt on the center shaft so the threads are not showing at the top of the drive shaft. You have to hit the nut on the center hard but not like to hard to brake anything. After you get the fly wheel off you have to use the model and serial number to get the key from a lawn mower shop. Place the key under the fly wheel and very carefully watch to see if it lines up as you push the fly wheel down. Push it down from side to side so it fits flush. Tighten the bolt. Don't start it first see if when you pull the pull cord it moves with out pulling the rope back into the mower. You'll have to make sure the top bolt is tight like maybe 60 pounds. MJ

How do remove the flywheel ?

first remove the cover and metal cover over the fly wheel, remove the bolt and the cup it sits in, next hold the break handle tight with rope or something, next put the nut that you removed from the cup and screw it back on the shaft just even with the top. next using a pry bar fit it under the fly wheel and pry up and at the same time tap the nut wit a hammer until it comes loose. i did this on my mower change the fly wheel key and it runs great, or check you tube on how to remove a fly wheel

What should the clearance be betwwen mag and fly wheel toro

The gap should be about .010 (Ten Thousandths of an inch), but truthfully, the way I set it is to loosen the coil bolts and place a shiny business card in between the coil and flywheel. Tighten the coil up snug against the business card and then remove it. This should set the gap close enough to the correct setting for you; done. Hope this helps and best of luck to you.

The starter cord has snapped. Can it be replaced?

Yes.Go to a harware store they or at least most sell the cord you need in bulk.Keep the handle as you will need it.Remove the fly wheel cover and the cord attaches to the fly wheel.Tie a knot in one end of the cord and slip it through the handle.Thread it through the hole in the fly wheel cover. Then just wrap it around the fly wheel.Reattach the cover, and you are done.

I have a 6 hp self propelled Craftsman mower with

Ok this may be a simple fix. it has a high chance that the fly wheel key has sheared, this will cuse the timing to advance and bite your hand with the rope.
remove the pull starter and the cup ontop of the fly wheel, if you look straight down at the fly wheel nut you can see a cut out in the crank and fly wheel they should be aligned up if not it has sheared. use a lever under the fly wheel and put some pressure on to to lever it up then hit the fly wheel oposite side of the lever AWAY from the the magnet. and the fly wheel should pop up. replace the key and of you go..Make sure you use the OEM brigbs and strat key it is made out of alloy. The cause of this is the blade hitting a kerb or somthing hard,

Engine will not start, no spark

Try taking of the engine shroud and cleaning the magnets on the fly wheel. Also clean the two little prongs that are really close to the fly wheel. Use fine sand paper or emery cloth. Then check the spark plug wire for rust (clean if any). Try replacing the spark plug if it is old.

Let me know if this helps.

Lawn mower will not hold charge with new battery sometimes starts sometimes no l 120 john dear mower I change my alternator, but it was not turn the fly wheel. what I did wrong

Often mowers come with batteries which simply do not have the cranking amps to do the job. Have someone look at your mower and see if your attery has the sufficient cranking amps.
