Brush will only spin when slightly lifted off the floor. If all the way to the carpet it does not spin. Is this a belt issue?

It does sound like the belt could be stretched -- may need replacing. Would also suggest cleaning the roller axles / bearings / housing and lubricating with machine oil. WD-40 works well for cleaning same.

My soniclean vacuum runs but as soon as I put the vacuum to carpet or floor the it shuts off and the check brush light comes on. Nothing is blocking the brushes or stuck in the intake hole

Sounds like the belt for the brush is worn, stretched, or loose. Replace the belt. OR the brush is set to low or set for hard floor. Set the brush up to next mark until it works. Using it set to low can cause the brush belt to stretch over time. If it spins when not in contact with the floor- it is the belt.

This sounds like a belt issue to me. The belt usually runs from a drive shaft to the rotating beater bar / brush. Both the drive shaft and beater bar / brush that are contact with the belt must be clean. Oils, etc. can interfere with the grip on the belt. If the belt is squealing for very long, the drive shaft can damage the belt. make sure you're using the correct belt - and have all the parts in their right places. Recheck your work and provide the vacuum make and model if you're unable to get it working properly.

Hi i have a hoover F5853 when the brushes in contact with the carpet they quit spinning but it is on and lift the front up they start spinning but as soon and i put it back down they quit please help

Belt around brush roller is worn, it spins freely when there is no pressure on it. But put it on the floor, the belt won't turn the brushes. I suggest taking unit to vac repair shop for new belt installation

I have a brand new hoover canister s3755 and the beater brush will not turn on the carpet it spins fine as soon as you lift it slightly off of the floor, I can't imagine it is the belt as the mac

It's commonly the belt when they're new. More explained here:

Call Hoover and complain, they'll likely send you a new one. The service centers will not be able to give you a belt under warranty as it is a "wear" part.

The roll brush will not turn when on floor. Too much pressure stops brush. Changed belts and still not working

Turn the belt inside out. This problem stems from a design flaw in the mechanism that turns the hoover from bare floor to carpet. After taking it apart I realized that the spring that pushes the belt tight (to make roller spin) is not any where near strong enough to keep the brush rolling. My solution was to turn the belt inside out (there by essentially shortening the belt and allowing enough pressure to be applied to the roller to keep it spinning. Horrible design flaw. I am an engineer and find this pathetic. Hope this helps someone.

The belt is intact but the aggitator doesn't spin anymore. Had a horrible rubber smell, went to change belt. Not the problem. Anyone know what could be wrong? Dirt Devil bagless w/dirt indicator

Even though your belt is intact it still could be worn. if you tilt the vac up (roller off the floor and the roller spins, replace the belt. on most vacuums the life of the belt for optimum performance should be 9- 12 months. If your vac has a carpet / bare floor selection, check to make sure it is in carpet mode.

DC 07 BRUSH BAR DOES NOT TURN BELT OK

Stand vacuum up and with it plugged in. Rotate knob between carpet and bare floor and back 5 times leaving it on carpet when finished. Rotate vacuum back from upright position and lay vacuum on the floor, rotating it onto its side. Turn vacuum on.
