Question about Husqvarna YTH21K46 (46") 21HP Lawn Tractor 960 43 0085

1 Answer

Seems there is no power past the safety seat switch. Can I bypass the switch? Key will not click when turned. Thought it was the selenoid, but have tried screwdriver across selenoid, and the mower will turn over.

You can put a fuse or a wire jumping across the safety switch under the seat. This is the most common fix you will find for a faulty safety switch. Do NOT do this if children will be around you while you mow or if you let a younger person drive the tractor! That could result in death or serious injury if they got off of the mower while the unit was still in motion.

On our Troy built we can't start it unless we use jumper cables to touch battery terminal and then the starter

check switch for corrosion make sure all post male and the female plug are clean. Check power to switch with 12 volt test light if you have power to switch check your soilinoid there is one wire that activates your selenoid to send power to starer. .i would guess bad selenoid.

Where is the starter safety switch on a 2006 kubota 7040 tractor?

The switch is usually under the seat. Pressure activated to start when you are seated on the machine and go off if you get off of the seat.

2011 ford focus 1.8 clicking noise when start engine

Could be several problems - check the battery terminals to make sure they are clean. Next check the battery to see if it is fully charged. If both those items checked are OK then the next step is to check the starter.

Now the starter has a selenoid which engages and provides power to the starter motor when you turn the key to the start position.

If you only get a clicking noise then it could be the selenoid valve itself or the starter motor.. Some fords have the selenoid mounted on the firewall others are mounted on the starter motor itself.

So what you need to do next is bypass the selenoid valve and provide power directly to the starter - if the starter turns the engine over then the selenoid valve is the problem. If the starter motor doesn't turn the engine over then it's the starter motor and a replacement is necessary.

Hope this info helps.

My 155c John Deere will not start! Brand new charged battery....I turn the key...nothing(no clicking either). When bypassing it to cellinoid, it starts right up. When I shut off the mower, I have to...

Usually when the key is turned to start position the starter soleniod engages thus applying power to the starter. There are three possible causes to your problem . (1) Check for 12vdc at the terminal on the soleniod when the key is turned to start position, if there is 12vdc at the terminal then the key switch is good. (2) loose or bad cable connection at the soleniod, check connections. (3) bad soleniod -- replace it. generally you will hear a click from the soleniod when the key is turned to start position. Also be sure to check that ALL safety switches are engaged. You may need someone to sit in the drivers seat so that switch will be "made" / engaged. Park Brake is set, mowing blades are "NOT " being engaged, on some mowers if the transmission is in reverse ,even tho the brake is set the mower will not start.

Yes, the solenoid is mounted on the starter.
One small jumper wire from the battery cable connection on the starter to the small wire solenoid connector should cause the starter motor to work and crank the engine. If key is on, engine should start. A small screwdriver works too, besides a jumper wire.
Check for voltage on the small wire to the solenoid with the key held in crank: if voltage there, the problem is the solenoid or starter motor. If no voltage to the solenoid, power has been lost between the ignition switch and the solenoid-possibly the neutral safety switch.

Try starting my 19.5 hp craftsmanriding mower and no click and cross over the solnoid and it turns over but no start

If it is equipped with a seat safety switch it won't start unless someone is on the seat or the switch is bypassed (which you shouldn't do for safety concerns). You could also have a bad ignition switch which is not uncommon.

TURN KEY WON'T START BYPASS SELINOID IT

There are a few things it could be. You need to do a check of the coil, safety switches and the ignition switch. You can check the starting solinoid (coil) by jumping from the hot terminal on the main contacts to the terminal that gets its power from the ignition switch (caution, do not go to the ground terminal if it is a four wire solinoid) . If it turns the engine, then you need to check the ignition switch. This is easier with an electrical multimeter. Remember to check the safeties. I have observed that the seat safety switch is the most common electrical component to fail.

I hope this helps.

Leplease explainon the safety switchs on mtd models660-679 work? I beleave my model is an intek twin. thank you

Hi,

The safety switch beneath the seat is only one part of the several interconnecting safety features of the modern riding mower. If the system works properly, you must be seated for the mower deck to operate. The tractor will continue running with the Power Take Off disengaged if the parking brake is set before the operator leaves the seat. The seat switch consists of two electrical contacts normally separated by an air gap. A spring creates an open space between the two contacts. Mounted between two plates, the switch's spring compresses under the weight of the person sitting in the operator seat and completes an electrical circuit. With the switch closed the tractor's ignition system can be switched on with the ignition key. If the operator stands, the spring forces the gap open and interrupts the electrical ignition circuit. The safety circuit allows the riding mower motor to continue running if the PTO is not engaged. When the parking brake is set a second switch in electrical parallel with the OPS closes. This bypasses the safety switch under the seat. If the operator stands, the parking brake switch still completes the ignition circuit. The mower blade turns only when the PTO engages. If the operator should leave the seat with the blade turning and under power, injuries could result. The mower blade would even continue spinning at full power if the machine overturned. To prevent this type of accident, engaging the PTO deactivates a connection in the original circuit and completes a second circuit in series with the OPS switch.

If the operator leaves the seat with the PTO engaged, the ignition interrupts and the machine stops. Until the PTO is off, no combination of settings will restart the mower.

I have a John Deere X300 garden tractor. When going into reverse the deck blades stop cutting unless you pull up on the switch. We have no little kids so safety is not an issue. How do you get around this?...

I have a John Deere X300 lawn tractor with an intermittent starting problem. From time to time, when you turn the key all you get is a click. Battery is connected, headlights work, but starter will not turn. Keep turning key off and on and eventually it starts. Other times, it starts just fine. What parts should I start replacing?
