One of these 2 should work.

1. Make sure that there is no disc in the tray and switch on the player.
2. Cold start the player, by holding down the PLAY and STOP buttons on the player.
3. You should see a set of language options. Release the PLAY and STOP buttons.
4. Select your language.
5. Press REPEAT (do not confuse this with the A-B button) then the following codes for the required region the player is already set to (region you bought the player in) :

Region 1 - 2, 9, 3, 3, 4
Region 2 - 3, 8, 7, 6, 7
("E series M105", M205 and M305 users try: 57538)
Region 3 - 5, 6, 7, 3, 2
Region 4 - 7, 6, 8, 8, 4
Region 5 - 5, 3, 8, 1, 4
Region 6 - 2, 4, 4, 6, 2

6. A code will appear, indicating the region setting of your player.
7. Press 0 for region-free, or 1 for region 1, 2 for region 2, etc.
8. Press OPEN/CLOSE on the Player to open the disc tray. You may need to push the tray shut rather than use the player button, in order for the region not to be changed to 4 (M203).
9. Press STANDBY (POWER) on the remote control to close the tray. Next time the player is turned on it will set to the region specified. If the player halts on the FBI Warnings, press Forward Search x2 or faster.
<DVD> ; press DVD button
<0><0><0><0><0> ; enter 5 times 0
<repeat> ; press repeat button (careful, not <repeat A-B>)
<5 digit code> ; see below, depends on region the player is currently set to
<0 for region free, 1-6 for other region> ; select new region
<open> ; open tray
<open> ; close tray
Now power off/on

5 digit code:
region 1 : 29334
region 2 : 37867
region 3 : 56732
region 4 : 76884
region 5 : 53814
region 6 : 24462

Note: reset player by powering down and simultaneously pressing <power> + <play> until display shows 'reset'.

I clean the dvd but still it says no disc

You need to open up the unit and clean the laser lens with a q tip and some rubbing alcohol. If this does not work then the laser diodes have weakened and /or there is an issue with the digital signal processor. The latter two cases are not economical repairs.

Remote dead.

A common problem is that people tend to be rough on remotes. Dropping a remote is the most common cause of failure. This will sometimes crack the circuit board. Depending on how the board is damaged it may not be serviceable.

Sometimes, but on rare occasions, the Infared transmission diode becomes defective, or the frequency crystal fails. A TV service center can fix this if they can have the parts. Normally remotes are not supported by the manufactures for service. They will tell you to order a new remote from their parts distribution.

I have a region 2 samsung dvd player. All of a sudden the following message displays: '' Can not play disk. Wrong region code'' We have been playing the dvd for more than 1 year. What is the problem? Same...

What follows is mostly generic advice which applies to the vast majority of DVD players which I've tinkered with.

Your problem normally only happens if someone else has played a different region coded DVD on your machine. Normally you get seven chances to reset the region code before the machine locks itself permanently to one of them. before the changes are permanent the player will usually ask you if you want to change the region code when you try to play a disc from the wrong region.

Before doing anything else it's worth asking other members of your household if they have recently used the player, especially if you know anyone may have been using imported discs. If they've used up all of the region changing opportunities then hacking the machine might not work at all.

If you use a search engine you can search for DVD-P181 hack and these will guide you through the process to make your DVD player a multi-region machine, but there are three different hacks which I've seen for the same player so you may need to try them all.

Won't play Canadian dvds

It is illegal to change the region code. I will not accept liability, but if you enter the phrase, "change dvd region code philips" on the YouTube website, some jokesters have some good videos which will show you how to do it. Two things they do not tell you:
1) It is illegal
2) It will only work 3 times, and then your player will be locked into whatever region code you set it to

You would really need a Multizone DVD player to do what you want to do legally (Philips does not currently make any of these)

Setting the player to region free

Apologies everyone.......

The instructions for the DVD-P181 are actually correct as described in other posts but can be a bit confusing. Please allow me to clarify using my example;

With your DVD-P181 switched on, follow these instructions using your Remote Control;

1/ Press the <DVD> button
2/ Press <0><0><0><0><0> (this is 0, 5 times)
3/ Press <repeat> (careful not to press the <repeat A-B> button)
4/ Press <7><6><8><8><4> (ONLY if your player is currently region 4 - refer to the table below for other pre-set regions)
5/ The Region window should now appear on screen saying that your current region is Region 4 and asking what region you want to change it to.
6/ Press <0> for the new Region (0 is region-free)
7/ Press <Open/Close> button once (to open the tray)
8/ Press <Open/Close> button again (to close the tray
9/ Press <Power> button to turn the player off

Now, when you turn the player back on, you should be able to play DVD's from any region. Good luck everyone.

_______________________________________________

This table refers to Step 4. You need to choose the Region code which your machine is currently set to, to unlock the Region Menu which allows you to set the device to another region.

In my example, the DVD player was purchased in Australia is by default set to Region 4. The 5 digit number I needed was 76884.

5 digit code:
region 1 : 29334
region 2 : 37867
region 3 : 56732
region 4 : 76884
region 5 : 53814
region 6 : 24462
