Question about RTO Atwood DSI-RV Water Heater-6 Gallon

1 Answer

I have RV from 1979. My gas water heater is broken. It has a hole in the inner tank in the aluminium. Is it possible to repair it? Do you sell new ones? What does a new one cost? Can I buy it in Holland?

If you have someone who actually knows how to weld aluminum, you may be able to dis-assemble it and have it welded then pressure tested. Normally we just replace tank, or entire water heater, depending on age. Being it's a 79' it wouldn't be uncommon for other parts to need replacing now, or soon as well. If the price difference isn't too bad, I'd certainly buy complete.

Converting Atwood RV Gas hotwater heater with Electric ignition with a Gas/Electric

If they are on outside of tank , I'm thinking your new tank has motor-aid feature as well. That is used to circulate coolant through from engine of motorhome while driving and it keeps water heated. That feature usually adds to price of tank. Hope you didn't pay for some feature you"ll never use.

Water works on electric but not on gas it will light but will not keep running

It sounds like your thermal coupler needs to be replaced or maybe just cleaned. P.S. have you tried a different LP tank If its new or the person didn't pressurize the tank when filled you may not have pressure enough to keep the water heater lit.

I HAVE AN ATTWOOD WATER HEATER I LIGHT THE PILOT ON GAS AN PILOT WILL NOT STAY LITE AFTER RELEASING THE BLUE KNOB SO I CHANGE THE HEATING COUPLING AN STILL DOING THE SAME THING

Try spraying some WD-40 in hole where thermocouple attaches to gas valve, then twirl a small piece of steel wool in your fingers and insert it in that same hole and twirl it as you push it in to clean surface where thermocouple makes contact. Then blow out with compressed air if possible and then re-install thermocouple fitting snuggly. If that doesn't do it, you'll have to get a new gas valve/control.

I have to replace ag6a3 inner tank but it will not come out the opening can i sawsall it in half

If you removed all the screws and it still won't come, it's probably the cardboard and insulation holding it. Peel it off, carefully if you want to save it, otherwise yank it out of there. If it's in an RV, they are installed through that same hole from the outside. Perhaps yours blew wide open and it wedged? Propane lines etc are all off?

Heater says lower sescor failur what is that

1) For the best answer possible, post what type water heater you have.
Gas or electric. Tank or tankless. Undercounter, tabletop, RV, indirect, solar-assisted, etc.
Information should be on product label
Give as much information as possible so experts are not guessing.

2) If you give brand and model number (not serial number), we can possibly pull a manual that could match your product and simply read the troubleshooting steps alongside you.
This will help us give the do-it-yourselfer as much help as possible.

3) Pull out your product manual. Look at your manual for troubleshooting steps, error codes, and remedies.

4) Go to manufacturer's website and look for manual.
Most manufacturers post manuals, and those that don't are selling another manufacturer's product.

5) Whirlpool has contact us page:

6) If this is Whirlpool electric-tank-type energy-smart, then the error code probably means that temperature sensor locate just above lower element needs to be replaced.

I have a G6A7 heater and the alluminium tank has split due to water freezing, can i get just the alluminium tank? Helen

Yes, you can buy just a replacement tank. Any RV dealer/parts should be able to give you a price, or even check campersworld site. Please keep in mind that it is a fair bit of labor involved in changing just the tank because you have to remove all the parts from old one, and re-install them on new one. If your water heater is getting on in years, it sometimes pays to replace complete unit with new gas valve, pressure relief, burner etc., already installed, and warranty comes with it. I've seen older ones get replaced and then gas valve goes next, etc etc, and it ends up costing more in the end. I'm not trying to sell you on this idea, just advising from experience.

I have a Atwood 10 gallon electric/ propane water heater on the Hornet travel trailer I purchased used. There are two switches on the wall, one is an on/off switch that lights up and the oither is just an...

The two switches control the water heater either in the gas or electric mode. The switch with the lights would be for the gas operation, and the switch without lights would be for the electric mode. Prior to operating either switch, make sure the water tank is full of water. Turn your hot water tap on, if water comes out, tank is full. Connect trailer to 110 Volt source, turn circuit breakers on, Place switch without lights to on position. If water does not heat in 45 minutes, Install new heat proble. The gas mode should be repaired by someone that is familiar with that system. Atwood can provide you with a local service center.

Hi,
There are a couple of things to check....
I am assuming that the gas is LP or Propane....
make sure that the gas valve is for the right gas and not natural gas...
Also, it is possible that the regulator that cuts the pressure from the tanks is bad and that maybe why the original gas valve failed....
If you have the correct gas valve installed, get a gauge and check the pressure of the gas right before the gas valve...it should be somewhere between 8 and 12 inches water column...
If the regulator is not working properly, check that the vent hole in the regulaor is not plugged by a mud wasp nets or something like that...
