I have a cub cadet 2140 with a onan 140 series motor. The problem is that I can turn over the key and all I get is a clicking noise. I can do this several times before the mower will start. The battery is brand new. Could it be the starter or what?

The starter solenoid could be going out. This is a piece of the electrical system and if you are not familiar with it then I would take it into the dealer and have them fix it. Otherwise you could be shocked or burned if something went wrong.

A Solenoid is simple to replace! Disconnect the batery find the solenoid disconnect the wires there are usualy 3 two heavy duty wires and a smaller signal wire un bolt remove and replace with the new reconnect the wires and then the battery and start it up. and take the wife or girlfriend out to dinner with all the money you just saved! A new Solenoid only cost 10-20 dollars

Cub Cadet won't turnover.

Try boosting it directly from the battery and see if it will turn over now. I had that problem and found my cable on the ground side had corrosion in it. I put new cables on and is ok now.

My Cub Cadet 2140 with Kohler 140 elite engine has constant power to starter.. Unhooked ignition and relay checked reg rectifier and still 12 volts to starter???

Starter switch could be making constant contact causing power to be on all the time. Disconnect the hot wire off the switch and see what happens. Then hook it back up and try the other wire and check voltage as you do this to both wires.

Cub cadet 2145 (Onan engine)runs the battery down

One possible problem is the voltage regulator is out. To test this, start the engine and put a d.c. volt meter on the battery, if the voltage readout decreases as the mower runs, replace the regulator
