Question about HP PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have a HP L1706 17" monitor that was given to me. I do not have a manual for it. I am building a computer from scratch with my nephew as a project and we have been having a problem getting the BIOS to load. The monitor was just showing a blank, black screen. I pressed the ' ' button for a few seconds and now the monitor just keeps changing colour- red, blue, red, etc., over and over and I cannot get it to stop. Can you help please? Teresa

My hp pavilion desktop computer says monitor going to sleep when i turn it on

Sorry to say, but your computer needs a complete installation of an OS. Windows updating causes several changes to important system files and nothing should be done at the time of INSTALLING THE UPDATES.
Norton was working at that moment, as you say, and besides, it was optimizing the computer which means that both the Update and the optimization may have worked on the same system files and the files may be corrupted now.

So, you should have a installation of OS as the System Repair didn't work.

Text does not come through all the way

It wouldn't by chance be going to sleep or hibernating to save power would it? If so check your Power Option in the Control Panel.

If the desktop is going black after it boots up all the way then try another monitor because it could be your monitor or the video card inside the computer.

Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays without the problem you are having then the video card inside the computer is good, but your original monitor is bad. If the Borrowed monitor display fades away to black like your original monitor then your video card inside the computer is bad.

Monitor screen lights up for only a second then gives "No Signal Input" error message. I've rebooted both the computer and unplugged the monitor to start to no avail

Have you tried plugging the monitor to a different computer? This will tell you if the monitor is bad if it works correctly in another computer then most likely your video card has gone bad and needs to be replaced.

My nephews compac presario 5000 desktop computer is in "power save mode" what is the cheapest way to fix this problem. Alan

Just reinstall Windows - free. If you can't do that then it's a hardware problem and you will have to find out what parts have failed (by testing each of them independently) and buy them.

Hi,
Install the monitor-driver INF and ICM files from the CD, or download them from the Internet as follows:

To install the monitor driver from the CD:

  1. Insert the CD in your computer CD drive.
  2. The CD menu appears.
  3. Select the language.
  4. Click Install Monitor Driver Software .
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions.
  6. Restart the computer.
  7. Check that the proper resolutions and refresh rates appear in the Display Properties window in the Control Panel.
To download the latest version of drivers and software files from the HP Support Web site:

  1. Go to the HP Support Web site
  2. Select your country/region.
  3. Select Download Drivers and Software .
  4. Enter the model number of your monitor, for example w2007 .
  5. The software download pages for your monitor display.
  6. Ensure your system meets the requirements given.
  7. Download and install the driver and software files by following the steps on the screen.
all the best....

HP Pavilion Slimline s3122x powers up fan runs

Hi Im Rain.
I may have bad news for you. Its a very bad sign when your keyboard and monitor are not working at the same time. Sounds like the technician was right.
I also think its your motherboard. If you really just like the computer you can invest in another motherboard.

The computer will power up, however, the monitor will stay black and say "Monitor going to sleep." It works sometimes, but the screen will get look really pixally.

Check the cord between your monitor and the computer, and try replacing it.
you could also try installing the latest graphics driver for your pc

I bought a new computer and my existing Samsung 24 inch flat screen monitor doesn't work with it. I see 6 buttons on the front of my monitor but I don't know how they work. Unfortunately, if a manual came...

If you have the (white connectors) DVI cable correctly plugged into the computer, when you turn the computer on, it should recognize it and make the needed changes automatically. Maybe not if the PC was already on even though it's plug&play.

If you have the model number of the monitor, you can google for the manual.
